Thanks to NBondi for the bottle. Deep brown pour with a thick tan head. Chocolate, toffee and citrus hop aroma. Taste is toffee, chocolate taste with a nice chewy body. Alcohol bite peaks through. Thick and intense, a nice winter warmer.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle via trade with Tooch4321 - Pours a hazy brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Light spotty lacing. Aroma is doughy malt. Flavor is toasted caramel malt and a hint of mint. The 12% alcohol isnít too over bearing. Malt lingers a bit in the finish. Medium body. A nice beer. Thanks Adam.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2010 On draft @ twisted spoke. Pours a dark brown red with a beige head. Red fruit citrus and caramel malts in the aroma. Sweet malts caramels, red fruits, with bitter licorice, pine and alcohol. A little sweet in the finish. Iím surprised this is labeled as a porter. As a porter itís odd as an american strong or even winter warmer... nice.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Smells of alcohol and malt. Looks lovely. Deep dark brown with lingering tan head. Itís like a dark barleywine. Perfect for a cold winter evening. I wasnít expecting so much alcohol, itís not hidden very well. Definitely a sipper and itís good, but they shouldnít call it a "brown ale". Itís got the strength of a barleywine.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A: The pour is a chestnut sort of color with some reddish hints and a dense off-white head.
S: The nose starts off with sweet caramel malts and honey. A nice nuttiness and toasted malt aroma. However, this quickly fades into some rather off-putting aromas of booze and rubber.
T: I donít really even feel like I got the chance to enjoy the flavor. Sure, there is some good sweet malt flavor, dark fruits, chocolate, and nuttiness, but the booze, rubber, and even chlorine are there all the way.
M: The body is medium to full with a lot of alcohol warmth and a medium carbonation.
D: Reading the other reviews, I have to wonder what went wrong. I certainly did not have the same experience, unfortunately, because I tend to enjoy Half Acreís stuff.

I wrote a real review and the server hiccuped and I lost it. Life goes on but I donít much feel like retyping it so here is the abridged version. This is a good brown ale w/ wonderful texture that is a bit too strong for itís own good. Itís major fault is that the alcohol and heavy ale yeast fruitiness is a bit distracting. Itís other major flaw is you donít get to drink much of it because itís too strong. I think they could brew a beer that tastes about the same at maybe eight percent alcohol and itíd be better.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted on draft at Fountainhead. Pours an almost black brown color with a thick tan head that leaves spotty lace. The nose is chocolate malt with some roasted notes, light yeast, some banana, and a strong alcohol burn. The flavor is sweet banana with chocolate malt, some very light hoppiness, and a very strong alcohol burn. THe body is full with lively carbonation and a long bitter and highly alcoholic finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle: Extremely dark mahogany...with tinted ruby and gold edges-extremely thick...Sweet, malty and strongly alcoholic aroma...bits of rye bread, honey and toffee. Some darker cereal aromas open the doors candi malts and bubblegum. Sticky palate with thick, creamy carbonation. Fruity flavours with serious raisin notes and undertones of peat moss, bitter chocolate and toffee. If this really is 12%...it is extremely well hidden.
