The smell is slightly boozy but very sweet. Almost a no existance of a head, just a tan ring. I did not notice before but the cap on almost all Half Acre beers seems to come off very easily. Color is a nearly black dark brown, kind of like root beer. Big, big flavor and a significant alcohol burn on the finish...nice warming beer. Slight nutty flavor, hint of hops heavy malt after taste, then the tingle and burn. Excellent beer, one of my favorites from half acre who always seems to impress.

Nose of strongly roasted malts some darker fruit notes, earthy hops, toasted nuts. A seriously robust brown ale nose without too much sweeetness, alcohol is present but adds nicely to the aroma. Pours brown with nice reddish underlying notes. Not much head or lace. Sweet with roast, chocolate, residual sugar, some fruity sweetness, dry roasty finish. Nice hop bitterness - earthy light fruit. Balanced with only light alcohol for 12percent. I like it.

Poured from a 22oz bottle from Deyholla. Pours dark brown with about 2 fingers of light tan head. Nose is lots of toffee and caramel with a bit of medicinal alcohol. Taste is toffee, caramel and chocolate with just a touch of bitterness at the back end.

22 oz bottle: Extremely dark mahogany...with tinted ruby and gold edges-extremely thick...Sweet, malty and strongly alcoholic aroma...bits of rye bread, honey and toffee. Some darker cereal aromas open the doors candi malts and bubblegum. Sticky palate with thick, creamy carbonation. Fruity flavours with serious raisin notes and undertones of peat moss, bitter chocolate and toffee. If this really is 12%...it is extremely well hidden.

Thanks to NBondi for the bottle. Deep brown pour with a thick tan head. Chocolate, toffee and citrus hop aroma. Taste is toffee, chocolate taste with a nice chewy body. Alcohol bite peaks through. Thick and intense, a nice winter warmer.

22oz bottle, thanks Ben. Dark jammy dried fruit, raisins, leather, touch of tobacco, good amount of residual sugar. Tight carbonation, decent body feel...not overly thick. Sweet figgy flavors up front, tobacco and leather, brown sugar, drier in the finish and the 12% is pretty well hidden.

Sampled at the brewery and a full bomber to get the full feel (Chicago, IL). Pours a dark brown near opaque hue, dark with notes of black, some coffee, frothy light brown head sits atop moderate sized, laces well sticks around pretty well. Aromas are a whole bunch of brown malts, coffee cake, bakers chocolate, coffee with cream, biscuits and toffee, touches of anise and light spice. Molasses, sweeter with some decent roasty toasty malts on top, sweet cocoa, caramel, and vanilla beans. Rich. Initial is fuller bodied, warming and roasty toast, toffee and caramel, chocolate, vanilla, coffee and cream. A plethora of brown malts, some nuttiness, earthy, touches of Licorice Allsorts. Vanilla and caramel, decent bitterness and some nice warming alcohol. A thicker brown malt bomb with a decent complexity of malts for the bitter cold months. Roasty and toasty with prevailing sweetness and toffee, breads and chocolate beneath. Fairly large, fairly bitter and roasty, that earthy brown malt that gives a nice play of flavors, not too much sweetness, investing in toast and bakers chocolate, with caramel and toffee playing second fiddle. Tasty, bigger, but still quite drinkable.

22oz bomber. Pours a darl brown with a thin white head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, some thin notes of dark fruit and a little booze. Medium bodied mouthfeel coffe malt and bittersweet chocolate. The finish is a warming with a some hotness to it. Almost a hint of bourbon bite in the boozy finish. Really drinkable at the high abv. Nice for a chilly night.
