3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber. Pours a cloudy brown color with a large beige head. A sweet fruity and nutty nose. A nice rich flavor of mostly caramel, dry dusty malts, some berries especially strawberry, a bit of toffee. Light bitterness in the finish. Good.

Deep red pour. Slightly cloudy. Some lace. Aroma is little roasty. Hints of caramel. Medium mouth. Roast in the taste. Some hop bite at the end. Overall a pretty nice beer.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Free bottle given to me at tasting room at Half Acre.
Poured amber red with a beige head that quickly dissolved into a thin cap of foam. Since this is almost summer & a winter brew I did not anticipate it to be exceptional.
Thinking this may be a typical winter ale I expected the usual cinnamon spicy thing to go on. Whew. Surprisingly the scent was pretty malty with slight hop & spice.
Flavor is definitely red with a spicy finish & above average.
Overall liked this beverage & would like to try it when it is is fresh.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at esbls. Mid brown and hazy with a small ring. There is a little spice in here with some spicy hops. They are grassy and citrus, too. The hops linger in the after taste. This beer improves late.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber from the brewery. Pours a deep brown, hazy with a minimal head. Nose is malty, mouth is as well, medium bodied and a bit of nuttiness and caramel. Bitter finish. Drinkable, but hardly my favorite from the boys up on Lincoln Ave. Beer completely aside, the bottle art is perfect for today though... DVD just arrived in the mail. Yay Bilbo and dwarves!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pint at the tap room. Little Scandinavian Tomtens are elvish farmers with incredible strength and a propensity for pranking. It’s an intriguing name for a winter amber ale and it gets you in the mindset of cold evening revelry. Tomten has a dark rose-brown glow and a thin layer of foam that sizzles on top, putting off a sweet, dried fruit aroma. The taste is thinly lyered caramel, orange, bread, and some sort of coriander and cinnamon spice. Just like its mythical namesake, it seems stronger (abv) than it is in actuality. Medium bodied and warming on the palate. Tasty and very good for a cold evening, but not Half Acre’s best.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the Tap Room. Pours a deep amber with an offwhite/tannish head. Nose is pretty restrained. Some fruity notes with light caramel and toffee. Toasty malt noted. On tasting, moderately high bitterness and a bland toasty malt profile. Soft sweetness and again a hit of fruity notes. If this were dry hopped with something bright, it would be much better. Okay.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz glass on tap at the taproom (Chicago, IL). Back-to-back with the cask treatment. Pours a well hazed brownish pour, some darkness through the body, touches of orange brown glow are deeper, coppery. A frothy tannish head atop remains firmly sized, laces very well. Inviting. Aromas offer touches of red fruit, toffee, and biscuits. Toasty, some sticky malts, good deal of bready elements. Some gentle spice, orange peel, and more biscuity malts. Smooth and a bit sweet, touch of dryness. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, a touch of girth. Malty caramel and toffee, toast, some gentle spice, maybe a kiss of ginger, some dark and red fruit elements. Middle shows some toast, bread, and some red fruit, a bit more thin. Gentle toast, some caramel, gentle spice and dryness as we move into the backend. Touches of fruit, mellow earthy hops, spice, a touch of ginger. Solid winter beer.. It’s not big or brooding, a bit malty overall but silky as we get into it, not overtly sticky malt. Nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle picked up at the brewery. Pours a cloudy copper colored body with a finger-width, dense, creamy and frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is toasty caramels and grainy toffees with a nice fruity hopping. Some earth to the hops with a bit of a citrus and tropical fruit. Flavor is similar. Toffees, toast, and grainy caramels with a solid fruity hopping. Finishes dry and earthy with a decent amount of citrus, but well balanced with a nice malt backing. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, I sampled this at the brewery and didn’t like it as much as I did from the bottle. Nonetheless, the bottled version had a solid malt backing with a firm, fruity hopping that stayed well balanced and easy drinking throughout. I was a big fan of this beer.
