On tap at Bistro BA Fest. Pours brown with no head and a sour malt aroma. This tastes a lot like the traditional oude bruins from Belgium - very malty with a subtle sourness that increases at the finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 BMan1113VR (7380) - Los Angeles, California, USA - SEP 20, 2011
Bayside Bruin. On tap. Pours with a hazy brown body with a small, but tight tan head. Definitely leans towards an Oude Bruin over a Flemish Red (malty). Forward, caramelized, malty aroma with some sour and vinegar notes, red wine, esters, light belgian yeast notes, sweet with a bit of cotton candy. Flavors are vinegar, lightly sour, dark fruits, cherries, some light malic notes, raspberries. Very light acid with minimal brett. Vinous. Overall this lives up to the letter of the BJCP style guidelines, but as a sour, I didn’t like it all that much. Livley bubbles, medium bodied with lingering yogurt/lacto notes.
