Overall solid but very different brew didnt try fresh but aged it intrigues me.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sask89 (326) - Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA - APR 13, 2011
Pours a hazy, cloudy, brownish amber colour, with a medium beige head. Aroma is of caramel malts, light hop scents, with fruity sugary notes and some wood. Taste is moderately bitter with a reasonable amount of sweetness throughout, fairly constant taste. Full bodied, somewhat soft or flat carbonation, slightly thick and creamy on the palate, and a long finish. A good beer, but not an overly amazing barley wine.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - APR 8, 2011
Single 201 bottle purchased from Willow Park Wine & Spirts sometime in March, 2011. Colour: Medium brown with high and soft medium yellow head. Nose: Parsnip, ketchup, tobasco, baked cheese. The label talks of a woody aroma, which they apparently forgot to put in my bottle. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium-light bitter, medium sour. Feta cheese, black olives, ash, some distant plum. Finish is burnt with plant-like characteristics. Didn’t do much for me.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hamfisted (55) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 30, 2011
A nice barley wine, with a bit of a different twist thanks to the fruit overtones. carmel on the tongue, raisin on the nose. I think this is the 2009 vintage, with the blue label.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pushkinwow (1338) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 19, 2011
341ml bottle, think its 2006 - tan wax and old label since burleywine is just written on a blue label. Pours a hazy amber with a nice tan; aroma of sugars, malt, alcohol. Nice and hoppy on the palate but sweet, carbonated, profile lingers for a while.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 silvorgold (22) - Brandon, Manitoba, CANADA - MAR 6, 2011
I haven’t had this beer in a few years. The 2010 edition changed their label completely for a nice fresh look. This is truly the "Winnipeg winter warmer", just after a few sips I was feeling warm on this cold Manitoban -20C afternoon. Aroma: a hint of toffee meets a bit of wood. Tastewise: really really sweet, I love it - very caramelly with a bit of hoppiness to it. I really am enjoying it. Has a very dark maplesyrup-like colour with a slight bit of haze. Can’t really think of anything to be critical about, not a fan of the wax seal, but that’s just so that it won’t be tampered with.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hoprider (59) - DENMARK - JAN 29, 2011
Pours clear light ruby/brown in colour with a small white head. Carbonation is light. Aromas of toffee, dades and toast. Taste is very rich and malty with a little citrus to ballance. Although the alcohol is well hidden here, the richness of it makes it a slow drink, or better yet, one to share. Aftertaste is a lasting mix of malty, doughy, woody flavors. Much more an English style Barleywine with a more subtle hop profile.. Makes me want to try more from Half Pints Brewing Co.
