COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Half Pints, we live by our motto: small brewery, BIG FLAVOR. Nothing proves this more than when we brew this extra strong ale. It is packed with five different malts for a strong dried fruit character and is hopped with UK Fuggles and Goldings for a woody, herbal aroma. This Barleywine is meant to be shared fireside with friends. Try it with a cheese plate of sharp Cheddar, Stilton, and Gorgonzola or a slice of rum soaked fruit cake. It will continue to improve with careful aging in a cool dark place, so try to save a bottle to compare with the new vintage. Serve at 12 degrees celcius in a brandy snifter. Unfiltered and unpasteurized. 75 IBUs Decoding Vintages:(2006 - Tan Beeswax) (2007 - Burgundy) (2008 - Green) (2009 - Blue) (2010 - Tan Wax, New Label) 2010 is the last vintage for this beer. As seen in "World’s Best Beers" by Ben McFarland.

09 bottle from Matt7215. Pour copper to ruby tan head nice lace. Aroma spicy, spices, caramel, sweet, pine hop bitterness, touch boozy. Taste slight medicinal, mint, caramel, booze, pine hops, strange bitterness, butterscotch. MF thick full body mild carb. Overall solid but very different brew didnt try fresh but aged it intrigues me.

Pours a hazy, cloudy, brownish amber colour, with a medium beige head. Aroma is of caramel malts, light hop scents, with fruity sugary notes and some wood. Taste is moderately bitter with a reasonable amount of sweetness throughout, fairly constant taste. Full bodied, somewhat soft or flat carbonation, slightly thick and creamy on the palate, and a long finish. A good beer, but not an overly amazing barley wine.

Single 201 bottle purchased from Willow Park Wine & Spirts sometime in March, 2011. Colour: Medium brown with high and soft medium yellow head. Nose: Parsnip, ketchup, tobasco, baked cheese. The label talks of a woody aroma, which they apparently forgot to put in my bottle. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium-light bitter, medium sour. Feta cheese, black olives, ash, some distant plum. Finish is burnt with plant-like characteristics. Didn’t do much for me.

A nice barley wine, with a bit of a different twist thanks to the fruit overtones. carmel on the tongue, raisin on the nose. I think this is the 2009 vintage, with the blue label.

341ml bottle, think its 2006 - tan wax and old label since burleywine is just written on a blue label. Pours a hazy amber with a nice tan; aroma of sugars, malt, alcohol. Nice and hoppy on the palate but sweet, carbonated, profile lingers for a while.

I haven’t had this beer in a few years. The 2010 edition changed their label completely for a nice fresh look. This is truly the "Winnipeg winter warmer", just after a few sips I was feeling warm on this cold Manitoban -20C afternoon. Aroma: a hint of toffee meets a bit of wood. Tastewise: really really sweet, I love it - very caramelly with a bit of hoppiness to it. I really am enjoying it. Has a very dark maplesyrup-like colour with a slight bit of haze. Can’t really think of anything to be critical about, not a fan of the wax seal, but that’s just so that it won’t be tampered with.

Pours clear light ruby/brown in colour with a small white head. Carbonation is light. Aromas of toffee, dades and toast. Taste is very rich and malty with a little citrus to ballance. Although the alcohol is well hidden here, the richness of it makes it a slow drink, or better yet, one to share. Aftertaste is a lasting mix of malty, doughy, woody flavors. Much more an English style Barleywine with a more subtle hop profile.. Makes me want to try more from Half Pints Brewing Co.
