sampled during the 2011 RBWG weekendthe last vintage thanks to Kyle, pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma is pine, roast, coffee and tobacco. Flavor is dry as hell with lots of roast, maybe a touch of smoke and earthen hops in the finish. Really nice.

Bottle. Dark chocolate pour, a little lasting head and an aroma of a little sweet bourbon and chocolate. Flavor is also plenty of bourbon/whiskey, chocolate, malt and a slight hop bite. The aftertaste was warming booze and had a little too much effervesence. A really good beer, I’m hoping I can get my hands on another one someday!

Pours deep black with nice fizzy tan head, thanks Greg! Aroma has notes of chocolate, sweet toffee, some roast notes. Taste is sweet toffee, chocolate, leading into roast and bitter coffee. Nice brew, bit effervescent.

Bottle to snifter. Pour is black brown with big soapy kahki head that lasts. Aroma is bitter sweet candy toffee. Taste is bitter and little sour with a nice coco toffee flavor. Palate medium to full feel and finishes dry.

Nearly black, tan head. Cocoa, whiskey, light espresso, roasted malt and molasses nose. Flavor is perfectly balanced between roasted malt, chocolate and whiskey notes. Damn good. Thanks savvy!

Bottle thanks to my hookup from Alberta Savvy1982. Pours a totally black color with a medium tan head. A sweet nose of loads of dark fruit, some smoke and cocoa. The flavor is lovely; a huge aggressive roast, dry cocoa, oak, some hops in the finish. I enjoyed this a lot.

February 19, 2010 tasting with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc & mabel. 660ml bottle courtesy of gregclow. Opaque brown-black pour with a huge creamy/foamy tan head. Aroma of vanilla, coffee, whiskey, mint, powdered milk and alcohol - nice! The taste follows on, slightly grassy, with just the right amount of restrained oak resin. Slick mouthfeel, decent body to it, just mildly carbonated, but oh-so smooth on the tongue, leaving a gently grassy finish after all the coffee and roast --- pretty damned nice understated imperial stout.

Bottle…RBSG 2010This beer rocks!… Pours nearly black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Excellent retention. The nose is of maple syrup and roasted tree nuts with a touch of chocolate. Full-bodied and velvety with dancing carbonation. Sweet, roasty, chocolaty, lightly nutty flavor. Mildly sweet chocolate and espresso finish. World class beer provided by Savvy1982!

In short: A very roasted, bitter, vanilla heavy and moderately bourbonny imperial stout. A good example of the style.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed about 8 months after the beer release. Sent to me by Sawy1982. Thanks a lot Kyle.
The look: Black body topped by a large beige head with medium retention.
In long: Nose has a lot of vanilla, a moderate bourbon presence, wood coal, a tiny bit of smoke. Taste has a lot of fudge, a lot of vanilla, high roasted level, chalk, some chocolate cake, some bourbon, some rye, some raisins, some lemon, some green leafy hops. A sharp bitterness with a bite-in-a-fresh-hop-pellet character. There was a metallic acidic bite in the finish that didn’t sit well with me but I think my bottle was the problem and it wasn’t supposed to be there. Carbonation was a little over the top for the style. I drank this beer very slowly while working on other stuff on the computer (and typing this rating) and strangely I appreciated the beer more after it had been sitting in my glass for 30 minutes. The carbonation was more relaxed and the citric/acidic bite was more mellow. Like if this was a beer you need to let breed. The beer was very good but I have grown to like Half Pints more and more and I like many of their regular releases (Burlywine, Pothole Porter, more...) over this hyped and highly rated special release. I really like the beer name and the cute childish label with a punk loaded with cash. A fun packaging by Half Pints. I’m not sure what the message is and the story does not tell how the punk got all that money. But we can pretty much rule out hard work.
