pours black as night with a tall brown head. Aroma is great big and malty with a very woody aroma and a very distinct rye smell. However the rye barrel is very prominent on the palate. This is a great stout big and malty with that strong oak flavour and distinctive rye sweetness.and a strong chocolate flavour in the finish. This is a very cool stout.

2010-02-19. Black body with a nice creamy beige head. Rich aroma, roast and whisky touches that are prominent but not over the top. Flavour sis similar, warming alcohol, oak, whisky. Warm and oaky alcohol in the finish. Smooth medium bodied palate. Very solid stout. The barrel aging is relatively restrained but still gets to be a bit much for my own tastes after a while. Still, rather nice. Bottle via trade with Savvy1982

Black with a thick head. The aroma has bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, light nuts and maybe a hint of barrel and booze. Full bodied. Rich chocolate body with hints of bourbon. Nice lacing down the glass. Very nicely balanced.

Bottle. First off - totally worth the 12 hour drive to Winnipeg. Pours black, but not inky like some stouts, thin creamy head, good lacing, though not exceptional. Nose is creamy and roasty, some fruit, more coffee/chocolate, plus a toasty, creamy, coconut aroma, unquestionably coming from the rye barrel. Palate is better than the nose, big coconut and roast, soft, correct carbonation, bananas, toast, sweet whiskey, nice roast, mild coffee and chocolate. Very good, especially for a Canadian effort, but maybe just a bit thin, Id like to see this with more body. Overall very very good.
