COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Latin name for hops is Humulus Lupulus, and when we decided to brew an ultra hoppy Double IPA to celebrate the brewery’s anniversary, Humulus Ludicrous was born. Pale two-row, crystal and Munich malts form the firm malt base with thick, nutty flavours. We add a stupid amount of Centennial and Cascade hops during the brewing process and finish with running the sweet hot wort though a hopback (stuffed with more hops) on its way to the fermenting vessel. But, we’re not done yet! Three separate dryhop additions take place as we move the brew through to the aging tanks. The result is a beer with unrivalled grapefruit and orange rind aromas with a bittersweet malt finish. 100 IBU As seen in "World’s Best Beers" Ben McFarland, and "1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die" by Adrian Tierney-Jones.

Bottle. Really nice dense orange pour with a small creamy head. Nice citrus and caramel nose. Good solid palate on this. Assertive hop bite that finishes well balanced. Excellent.

341ml bottle pours a cloudy pale amber color with a small white head which settles with some spotted lacing. Aroma is caramel and some citrusy and earthy hops. Taste is citrusy and nutty bitterness with a light malty sweetness underneath. Medium to heavy body and light carbontion. This beer has plenty of character with a big hop profile and enough malts to balance things out. Very well done.

Pours hazy with a deep amber colour and a creamy head which slowly dissipates. Scent has the strong floral and citrus notes that you would expect from a fine IPA. Taste is incredibly hoppy, but well-balanced with toasted malts. Bitter, sweet with a thick texture. Long satisfying finish. Big props to a Winnipeg brewery for creating such a great beer.

12oz. Bottle: GUSHER! Aroma of hops, pine, citrus, malt, light caramel, slight diacetyl, grapefruit, and light citrus. Poured amber in color with a small, creamy, dense, off-white/tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Very good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and heavily bitter. Tastes of malt, caramel, hops, pine, slight citrus, resin, and a hint of diacetyl. Medium body. Oily, then lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Caramel, malt, hop, resin, citrus finish is lightly dry. 8%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

11.5 oz bottle at a tasting at Chris’ place, served in a tasting glass. Pours hazy amber with a small, off-white head. The head fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of lace. On the nose, there are notes of lemon, biscuit and caramel, with a touch of pine. The flavour is balanced between toasty malts and a sharp, piney bitterness. It evolves to a long, resinous bitter finish. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a balanced IPA with nice toasty malts and a nice hop aroma. 2011-05-22

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2011 (From Vertical Bacon Strips. Quite a nice beer Jeff. Thanks a lot!)

Pours a nice copper colour, solid finger of head with decent retention (couple minutes), leaving some fine sticky lacing throughout. Little carbonation noticeable on the body. Scent is strong soapy hops, cedar and pine, sweet lemon iced tea and a light caramel finish. Taste is much like the scent, soapy cedar and pine hops, finish is bitter but not overly dry. Some woody caramels come through and linger on the finish, and the higher ABV is well hidden. A nice smooth oily texture, medium bodied and not overly dry. Very nice mouthfeel. Hopheads take note - this is one to get your hands on.

Bottle. Pours a reddish amber with a thin greenish head. Some hop particles visible in the beer. Very aromatic, lots of floral and citrus aroma. Tastes very hoppy, significant but not overpowering bitterness, notes of citrus and spruce. Warming mouth feel, slightly sweet malt overtones. Finishes with a grassy hop taste. Very hoppy but still balanced. This is a pretty fantastic imp IPA for certain, one of the best!
