Pours a dark amber. Aromas are burnt sugary malts, smokiness, and a touch of bubblegum too. Flavours are smoked meat, some sweet bready malts, and a woody, boozy, bitter finish. Good.

Pours a cloudy brown/red with beige head and little lacing. Aroma is malty, some dried cadied fruits, light tobaco. Taste is full of rich malts, caramel, light dried fruits, sweet but finish is a bit dryier. Medium to full body and medium carbonation.

Nice dark red/amber colour. Thin tan head that dissipates leaving very thin film on top. Sweet and malty with a nice bite at the beginning. Really nice for such a sweet, high alcohol brew. High alcohol can sneak up on you with this one. Be careful.

This beerpours a lovely ruby garnet red. Consumed approximately 10 oz in a brandy snifter. The nose holds promise of treacle (burnt), figs, grape and slightly ripe fruitcake. In other words, perfect for a Doppelbok. When I taste it is when things start to go south; there is a very unpleasant higher alcohol or aldehyde that makes the beer almost undrinkable. This is something I’ve noted in a few of the ’high’ alcohol products from Half Pints. It’s there in Demeter’s Harvest, Pothole Porter and Humulus Ludicrous. I suspect it is the type of yeast used (Wyeast?). Two days prior to trying this, I had a Celebrator and Paulaner Salvator doppelboks. Very sad to say this is not in the same league. Taking the rest back to the store. Half Pints; please step up your game. Something has changed in the flavour of your beers in the last 1-2 years and it is not for the better.

Brownish red colour with cream brown head, nice lacing. Sweet aroma of malts, caramel, bubblegum and licorice. Taste is very sweet, anise, dried fruit. Abv masked. Very nice.
