Our bourbon barrel aged imperial. Different base recipe than the $ellout.

658 ml bottle via Piscator34. Pours a near black with a large cascading mocha head. Aromas are caramel, licorice, molasses, oak, alcohol and tons of roastiness. Tastes are strong bitter oak and alcohol (if I were a bourbon drinker I suspect I would have said bourbon instead), with some roasty malts and perhaps some coffee and chocolate in the background. Big on the palate, moderate carbonation, and a lingering aftertaste reminiscent of the big oak. This stuff tastes like it belongs in the barrel a St. Bernard would carry around when rescuing lost skiers. Full disclosure requires that I indicate I’m not a bourbon drinker or a fan of imperial stouts.

Near black pour with a toffee coloured head. Vanillan wood, bourbon, chocolate. Really well integrated nose. A little warm on the palate with flavours of wood, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon.

Bottle split at CBC tasting, thanks to MJ for trading me this one, 26/06/13. Mid black with a dirty tan head that dissipates to a light film. Nose is big dark roast, subtle bourbon, oaky, bitter chocolate, sugars, toffee fudge. Taste comprises cocoa, dark toffee, oaky, good trace of booze, sugars, big roast bite. Full bodied, soft carbonation making for an easy drinking impy, good boozey hit in the finish but well integrated and not OTT. A very good impy stout, well balanced carrying a boozey kick but well integrated in this respect.

Bottle shared by Colin @ Craft. Cheers fella. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. The nose is quite ashy. Plenty of scorched earth. Coffee bean, dark chocolate. Sweet Boston cream pie. The taste is burnt brown sugar, peanut brittle. More earthy accents. Hints of vanilla and wood. Slightly hot. Full body, oily. Overall, quite nice stuff. A good example of a BBA imperial stout.

Une bouteille de 65 cl offerte par kbudd19. Thanks!

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell - massive thanks to Colin for sharing this whale. Pours pitch black with a thick and creamy beige-brown head. Burnt toast in the nose, some burnt marshmallows, roasted malts, dark chocolate. Medium to big sweet flavor but not at all cloying, with gooey chocolate, burnt bread, dark fruits. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate warmth at the end with bitter dark chocolate, light alcohol, dry wood, dirt, cocoa. Great stuff. Good balance, good depth.

Une bière à l’onctuosité décadente et avec le profil des saveurs apparenté à la bcbs. Chocolat au lait, café noir, vanille, coco, bourbon, tanins dociles, un véritable lait frappé.

Bottle, merci David! Opaque black pour with a thin veil of brown foam. Really solid bourbon aroma, just the right amount of sweet, sticky bourbon notes, vanilla, and a light oak touch, tons and tons of chocolate aroma, fudge, dark chocolate, light roasty notes complement everything well. Taste is sweet but not too desserty, really chocolaty, lots of vanilla, well dosed bourbon flavor. Palate is rich and silky, right amount of carbonation. Excellent

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2013 Bottle from Kbudd19, thanks Kevin!! Aroma is amazing! Wonderful notes of smooth bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, woods, a little hint of smoke, raisins and dark fruits with molasses and cafe mocha. There is this very interesting subtle hint of dough or coconut right in the middle. It’s subtle but gets a little stronger as it warms. It’s not really pronounced but it’s there in that long black veil of bourbon, vanilla and chocolate passion. Extremely good nose. My first thoughts were of bourbon barrel aged Dark Lord or GI Rare. It’s very close but not quite as velvety. It is however one of the best Bourbon RIS that I’ve ever smelled and I was not expecting anything other than another bourbon bomb from an average brewer. Boy was I surprised. Black hue with a small tan head that mostly diminished and left no lace. Flavor is very sweet and medium heavy bitter. Palate is very full bodied and oily with soft carbonation. Long finish. Overall I was really impressed and caught off guard by this brew. A little long on the finish but it’s easily right up there with KBS or GIBCS for sure. Well done Half Pints, keep it up!
