Spab (229), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 26, 2009 341 ml bottle at Volo. Pours a cloudy copper with slightly off-white head. Maybe something was off with my bottle, glass or me, but the nose was strongly salty, almost fishy. That smell really overwhelmed the hop presence that was clear from the flavour - big piney, green hops with some spiciness and a subtle caramel malt backbone. Lasting, moderately bitter finish with the alcohol giving it a pleasant warmth. I don’t for the life of me understand the aroma, but otherwise a nice beer. Macadem (100), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Sep 10, 2009 A soft, crisp, clean and refreshing IPA. Surprisingly soft nose, mild hops and citrus, with gentle floral notes. Tastes of orange and lemon rind, hops and butter. Nice lacing in the glass, pours golden yellow. Savvy1982 (303), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Sep 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours medium red-amber, with a fluffy and persistent off-white head with gorgeous lacing. Nose is delicate but still well-hopped; notes of spruce and citrus, not terribly aromatic. Really tasty in the mouth, plenty of grapefruit, pine resin, firm malt background. Well done, points are for balance though, not massive extroverted hops. ChrisThomson (350), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 30, 2009 Bottle at Volo. Solid american IPA. Amber colour with small head. Nice piney hoppy nose, Substantial taste of caramel malt balances out the citrus and piney hop flavours. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 15, 2009 i gotta say, this is very good stuff! i did not expect this quality of brew. Straight up American IPA. Excellent hazy apricot colour with a fair sized smooth white crown, decent retention and ample ropy lacing. the floral aroma is filled with amarillo and cascade hops (I love amarillo hops) that leave the nose happy. Sweet and fruity, maybe the smallest ammount of pine, and soft malts - a small quantity. Taste is as good as the aroma. Intense hops right off the bat, pine, and citrus, some fruit but the intensity of the hops wipes most everything else out. This sucker is ALL hops. Mouthfeel is nice smooth with a good biting ammount of carbonation. Almost medium bodied. The malts try to come out at the end but get smashed by the crazy bitterness that goes on and on. Excellent brew. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2009 [2134-20090508] Bottle. Fresh apple orange hops and earth aroma. Hazy, dark red amber body with a quick foamy off-white head. Bitter earthy orange hops flavour has a bit of sweet grass. Medium body is bitter. Interesting, fair balance.
(@ Volo; Toronto, ON) Cirrhosis (607), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 10, 2009 "Not bad looking brew hazy gold with a good quarter inch crown floating on top some spotty lacing all and all not too bad. Aroma is a straight up American IPA with the typical grapefruit hops with a nice malty presence some floral notes make their way in as well. The aroma is a little too mild for my liking I would have preferred if it was a touch more aggressive. Taste is slightly watery but still has tones of flavor hops dominate as they should with their citrus flavors the caramel tasting malts are a touch held back in the flavor but this is still very tasty I’m also getting a noticeable amount of a perfumey flavor most likely from hops. Not the greatest IPA in the word but still very drinkable and compared to most other Canadian examples this is pretty good, I would easily buy the one again given the chance. "
McTiggs (1), Canada does not count Jun 3, 2009 An amazing IPA, perfectly bitter and spicy. Probably the best beer ever brewed in Winnipeg.
Each sip is a trip to heaven on a grapefruit flavoured carriage.
