aerosol999 (113), Quebec, Canada Oct 23, 2007 Appearance: Opaque black with a tan head that disappears quickly.
Aroma: Cacao, raisins, low fruit esters and coffee.
Flavour: Mellow roast coffee - not aggressive or dominant well balanced and assertive at once. Good roast malt character. Bubblegum (juicyfruit) esters - Ringwood ?- and a touch of pleasant diacetyl butterscotch.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied low carbonation. NIce smooth mouthfeel.
Overall: A good coffee stout that is both a coffee beer and a stout without either pushing over the top. Roasty, with a long coffee and chocolate, mocha flavour. Easy drinking.
Ughsmash (3079), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 21, 2008 Thanks to Mark for the bomber (and the new province)! Poured medium-deep reddish-brown with short-lived cap of tan head. The aroma picked up lightly-roasted coffee and sweeter chocolates upfront without too much going on.. came across as a bit watery on the nose, but the water had some character to it at least. The flavor was all about the cold-press coffee with a little toasted barley providing some support.. light coffee and earthy bitterness surrounded.. dried out for the finish, leaving some coffee grounds. Light-medium bodied with increasing coffee and oaky sourness that didn’t work too well.. this just didn’t do too much for me. DuffMan (1962), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Sep 7, 2008 Deep brown, moderate tan coloured head. Aroma of wet coffee grinds (as opposed to a rich roasty bean aroma). Flavour is all coffee, with a slightly vegetal hop note in the finish. I can’t find any chocolate in here. Mouthfeel is on the thin side. Medium bitterness. Would be better with some chocolate and a fuller body. Gypsy19 (219), AMERICA RISING, USA Aug 16, 2008 A good hearty stout. A little bitter for a stout. Notes of chocolate, coffee, and citrus. Not bad at all. Not great, just good. thepegjett (47), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Apr 17, 2008 A - roasted coffee.
A - almost black
F - Nice bitter coffee flavor
P - smooth
O - This is the only coffee I drink is this. Had it with a truffle at a brewry open house. Wow was that good. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 14, 2008 Darker brown with a thinner texture. Nice foamy tan head. Nice strong coffee and roasted malt aroma. Starts off with a bitter coffee flavour that is quite nice. Quickly thins out and leaves you wanting more maltiness. Good simple version of a stout.
