3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Half Pints Stir Stick Stout
22 oz bottle
Moderate pour in a snifter.
Recent brewing, stirred 08/07
Poured black with brown highlights with a moderate light brown fizzy mostly diminishing head.
Smelt of moderate chocolate, and light coffee.
Taste was upfront bitter moderate roast to burnt grain and coffee and light chocolate followed by more of the same, with a slight almost metallic or green twang on an average finish.
Palate was light bodied, lively carbonated, slightly oily and lightly astringent.
Overall, this is an easily drinkable coffee stout. Not the richest or most powerful, but a good summer stout. Great chocolate nose!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown/ black with brown head and some lacing. Aroma of coffee, light chocolate, roasted malts. Taste is cold coffee, bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, light acidity. Medium to low body and low carbonation. A bit watery. I wish it had a bit more body. Ok but not great.

Pretty good stout. Lots of coffee and chocolate. Some dark plum flavour possibly on the background. A good beer from a local brewery.

341 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with medium head that dissipates quickly leaving spotty lacing. Aromas of fresh roast coffee, dark chocolate, and heavily roasted malts. Flavors of black coffee, ash, and watery vanilla.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dark, tan head. Dark chocolate and coffee feels like an espresso. Flavour is a LOT of coffee, chocolate, roastiness. I really liked this one, one of the better coffee beers I’ve had... I think we must share the same taste in coffee. Very well done.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle - Dark rich chocolate with only a hint of bitterness. Opaqu brown/black with a rich thick brown head. Nice sweet chocolate notes, very mild bitterness and a very mild finish. Very mellow and the coffee/chocolate doesn’t overwhelm. Body is much too light for this style though, I would of preferred something a little richer. Still a very good beer, I would happily drink this again.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle courtesy of Andrew - thanks! Very dark pour with a small beige head. Huge coffee aroma - awesome. Palate might be slightly thin for the style. Good stuff though.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle (341 ml). Traded by northropfrye, thanks Andrew! Black with almost no head and some beige lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and slight acidic notes. Taste is about the same with the acidic notes again. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, even for a Stout. Average Stout at best.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Une bière excellente avec un nez et goût prononcé de café. Le goût de biére est assez fort et complexe même avec le café. Il y a un peu de chocolat et avoine avec une finale doucement amer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’m pretty far from being a connoisseur of stouts and porters but I’ve pretty much fallen in love with them over the last little while. Anywho, Half Pints is a local brewery so I might be a bit biased but honestly, I’m just loving this. I’ve had it plenty of times in the past and always thought it was ok but enjoying this beer at cellar temperature is kinda orgasmic.
As to be expected, dark chocolate and coffee notes appear in both aroma and taste. Texture is surprisingly light and thin for a stout. I actually wish it had a bit more of a heavier feel to it. But then again, it probably makes it that much more easier to drink!
Bottom line, not an overly complicated stout by an means, but it’s really enjoyable and perfect for those cooler fall evenings.
