COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer has been brewed especially for my wife, Nicole. Just like her, it’s a little sweet, and a little bitter. Brewed in the American Brown tradition, this hoppy ale is nut brown in colour (just liker her hair and eyes). The addition of two different British crystal malts give the beer a sweet, fruity flavor while the Belgian Biscuit and Chocolate malts lend a deep nutty character (draw your own conclusions) to finish. I’ve used UK Goldings and Yakima Valley Cascade hops to add a flowery citrus finish to the beer. Try it with a ploughman’s lunch of Rye bread, Asiago cheese, and deli pickles. Serve at 8 degrees celcius in a nonic pint glass. Unfiltered and unpasturized.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2007 660ml Bomber ( Thanks Kris) Pours a deep dark chestunt brown turbid, ale in the glass with a glorious sticky-rocky mocha-colored 3 finger cap. lasts and laces the glass sides.( lots of malt protiens in this brew kids) Wonderful American ale aromas...pungent cascade floral-citrus in the nose is balanced by sweet crystal malt tones and a bit of cocoa from the black malts...delicious! Light in character but rich and medium bodied with a distinctive balance. Flavor starts well balanced between chewy nutty malts and fruity esters in balance with sturdy floral bittering from the hops....mid palate the savory impressions develop as the flavors mingle on the palate: walnut skins with biscuit, chocolate, tobacco, tart fruits cedar bitters...then the finish breaks clean with increasing metallic bittering from the hops mingling with the astrigency from the "char" of the black malts....in a blind taste I bet a lot of people would say this was a porter. A delicious dark brown ale in the American style...I envy the brewer if his wife has the character this beer displays ;-)

[151-20061221] 660mL. Roasty meaty malt aroma. Deep brown body with a quick white head. Big heavy flavour carries meaty beef and malty bitterness with a hoppy aftertaste. Medium-full body. Interesting togetherness of meat and malt and coffee qualities.

Trade with Piscator34. The first bottle, unrated, seem more enjoyable. Thin head or OK depending on the pour. Good roasted dark chocolate nose for a brown. Tasty lite-porter taste with long coffee finish. A little bit of an off stout taste as well.

blankboy (6263) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 6, 2007
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a clear reddish-brown with a small diminishing tan head. Aroma’s roasty and chocolaty with some floral hops. Slightly watery flavour is roasty along with some coffee and a bitter finish. Light to medium bodied. Flavour’s a touch too watery but otherwise this is pretty good stuff.

650 ml bottle shared with some Quebecois and Ontrarians at the Montreal YeHa 2006 tasting, from a McAuslan glass. Semi-clear brown color with a bit of lasting tan/brown head....nutty, lightly acerbic aroma, touches of bitter chocolate and caramel, pleasant enough but fairly ordinary and nothing atypical for the style....body offers some decent nutty oiliness as well as some caramel in the flavor department, but mouthfeel is really dull, thin and increasingly bland towards the finish. Too bad, a promising start for the beer that finishes off my Canadian provinces. Yay Manitoba!

(Bottle) Shared at the PNW Christmas 2006 party at Oakes on December 9th. Thin, white with a deep brown body. Nose of sweet cocoa and undertones of hoppiness. Gritty, chocolate and mild cocoa powder finish. I know Dave can do better and am wondering if its his bottling?

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, jerc & mabel - my bottle, via a trade with piscator34. Dark ruby-brown with a good sized mocha head. Aroma is great - sweet roasted malt, cereal (specifically, Honeycomb cereal), herbal hops, all well-balanced. Flavour is roasty and nutty off the top, with a slightly watery middle, but a nice bitterness in the finish that almost makes up for it.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and mabel, GregClow’s bottle. Deep clear ruby-brown with a small beige foamy head. I really loved the aroma of this one - rich roast fresh grain, light floral hops, something that seemed like oats. The taste was a little too bitter, quite grainy, a little bready, but the roast didn’t materialize as I expected, and there’s only a generic bitterness, no real hop character. Slightly thin body, some astringency, quite dry on the tongue, with a bit of acidity in the aftertaste - not bad - and really nice aroma.

Bottle. Pours a dark copper body with a small creamy white head. Smells of hazelnuts, rye bread, caramel, and faint roast. The flavour is a tad simple and watery. Bready base with faint caramel (and particularly in the finish). Thin and uninteresting for the most part.

Ruby tinged brown, tan head. Grainy hops and very muted toasty malt. Watery coffee grounds like bitterness up front is a bit off putting to me, washed out malt in the middle, hops escape in the finish with a last minute citrus note. Average palate. Actually not a bad take on a brown ale, but does very little for me personally. 7/3/6/3/13
