COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in the Belgian Dubbel style, The Father is our first beer in the Half Pints Holy Trinity series. Brewed using divine inspiration and a combination of Vienna, Dark Crystal, and Biscuit malts, this full bodied ale is hopped with Czech Saaz and Styrian Goldings. The special yeast strain we have used creates the aroma of ripe fruit while an addition of Demerara sugar creates a dry finish which Monastic brewers say lends a "digestible" quality to the beer. Try it with Manitoba Trappist Cheese or with a simple family dinner of baked ham, scalloped potatoes, and honey glazed carrots. Serve at 8 degrees celcius in a wide mouthed chalice. Unfiltered. 20 IBUs.

Dark amber with minimal head. Aroma of some hops and prunes with a touch of rye bread. Flavour was quite sweet and under developed. No real carbonation made this sweet and apple juice like. Finishes with a sweet note.

Light reddish orange body, not much head retention or lacing. Sweet yeasty, grainy, dried fruit, vanilla and banana aroma. Taste is rich and sweet, again yeasty, with a dry finish. Overall a nice dubbel from Half Pints.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Smells like sweet wheat in the sun. Clear copper body. Head doesn’t take much to activate. Just swirl it a bit. Tastes like light and sweet, a teeny touch boozy on the end, and tingly on the palate.

I’m digging this trinity series. Pours a maroon colour. Aromas of grape juice, moist dried fruit...like prunes, herbal notes. Flavours are sweet dried fruit and a nice hoppy finish. Not the best dubbel out there...but the only one produced in Manitoba as far as I know. And it’s solid.

Bottle. Cloudy honey-brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma is raisins, dates, some bread and Belgian yeast. Flavour is lightly bready, yeasty, some malty dried fruit. Kind of light bodied and not much carbonation. Pretty light for a dubbel, but not bad - just less flavour than expected.

66 cl bottle, Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Thanks to Dad for opening the bottle (well aged). Medium hazelnut colour, thin head. Mostly caramel and bread aroma, some faint alcohol, banana and cinnamon. Brown sugar sweet flavour, mellow (perhaps due to the age) with a warming finish.

Holy shit! Thanks to Brewmaster Dave for parting with his last bottle of this one! This was startlingly nice considering its age. Pours hazy amber, thin off-white head, spotty/poor lacing. Carbonation is quite soft. Nose is lovely Belgian yeast, red fruit, toffee, light spiciness. Flavors of butterscotch, spicy cinnamon and cardamom, white pepper, great fruit. Really nice!

hazy amber with some suspended sediment. Great aroma dark fruit aroma strong and bold with lots of malt character. Flavour is rich and fruity. Notes of bread very Belgian. This is very nice. Smooth drinkable fruity. Notes of yeast. This is an old bottle and it sure has stood up to time. Great beer. I hope to finish the trilogy some day. But it’s a long shot although it never thought I would never try the father. Thanks kyle.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2009 Thanks Derek Hyde for sharing, produced in 2007. A yeasty though sourish beer, not quite what I expect from a dubbel, more of an experiment. Rising carbonation bubbles and good off-white head and some lacing. A little boozy, a little woodsy. Medium mouthfeel, yeast makes it a bit creamy. Drying.
