"Hops galore!" youíll say upon supping this American Pale Ale. With a hop aroma bursting full of floral and zesty citrus, this one churtles down your slide with a clean honey malt flavour balancing wonderfully with that sensational hop tang. Overall, this fresh Kiwi take on the American pale is both zesty and tangy, indeed, we reckon youíll find it uniquely Ďzangyí and asking you back for more.

(On tap) Slightly hazy golden with a creamy, off-white head. Fresh, lightly citrusy aroma. Medium body with sweetish malt accents, light citrus and a dry, lightly bitter finish. A very fresh and quaffable APA with the citrus being a little downplayed. 080208

Draft at the source. Clear light amber color, white head. Aroma of fresh hay, caramel, summer fruit. Taste is fruity and malty. Nice.

Less a pale ale and more of a clunky crystal malt and garlic hop amber ale. Gum, garlic, shallots, tropical gum aroma... the hops have some resemblance to Simcoe and Citra, though no strong resin or Christmas tree or pet urine character, itís still far outside of what I go for. Medium body, medium to heavy sweetness, medium bitterness with prickly hop acids, itís not overly bitter but is strongly hoppy, and though it seems itís hop-driven, itís the malt that dominates: toasty, over-kilned and even smokey at times, a little bit like used cigarette filters. At first I thought this smoked malt character was in my head but I came back to the glass again and again and itís definitely in the glass, so something went awry in the boil kettle. Finish is sweet and syrupy with a resemblance to Zebra Stripe gum with milder touches of gasoline (minus the alcohol association). Fits in nicely with the Session Pale Ale/IPA group though the hop bitterness seems lost in the sugar, and the hop aroma and flavor I donít find appealing. From draft at Andrew Andrew in Auckland.

On tap at Manakau festival. Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a white diminishing head. Light sweetness with some bitterness. Light strawlike maltiness. Light, slightly grassy hoppiness with a citric hint. Light to medium bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Dry finish. I had a feeling that this festivl cask had a hint of diacetyl.

Draught at the brew pub, an amber colour with a large foamy white head. A good hoppy aroma with plenty of juicy fruits. The palate is enjoyably dry and bitter. There is some hints of lemony citrus, but overall lacks a bit of flavour in my opinion.

It is one the pale side of most APAís Iíve indulged in with a clinging collar of white head that seems stuck to the glass like frothy chewing gum. The aroma is of citrussy hops with grass and cone aromas, but not in any threatening quantity. Yes it smells like an APA, but usually you get an olfactory assault, which you donít get here. Again, those zesty, resinous spruce gum hops have been converted into flavour. At first you think "Well, here it is, but there could be more of it." but then you start to consider how much is enough. I mean you get enough to let you know thereís American hops there, but not enough to grasp the tongue and start braying the star spangled banner. This is an APA with subtlety, but Iím afraid that will be lost on most. Itís finish is of orange peel and is spritzy. A charming beer, but one that is trying to gently cough to get attention in a very noisy throng.

12o bottle pours a yellow amber color without much head. Mild hops and some good maltiness. Hop bitterness is a little harsh.
