3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tastes alcoholic but less so than it is, hops are the main flavour with underlying malt. No good for driving home. Good if dig the beer herbs.

Tried on tap at Fine Wine Delivery Co. Quite a lively beer with some inviting citrus passion fruit flavours, balanced with pine needles and resin. Not over powering for a 8.5% beer, rather easy drinking leaving a pleasant tingle on the side of the tongue.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled @ our hotel, Auckland. Very last beer before leaving. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma has tropical fruits, citrus. Clear, copper with a white head. (My notes have a ’?’ after the appearance, so unsure). The taste is nice and full. Has citrus mainly, some maltiness. Quite some bitterness. Very nice.

Great tasting ipa. A bit cloudy without much of a head . It has a great taste which I find moreish . The taste has lots going on I found the aroma hard to pick up.
Still a great beer

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I rather like an aggressively hoppy IIPA. They’re frequently a challenge to the tastebuds and a general joy to behold. This one is a bit of an ugly critter with its hazy dark amber body and nil head. Not even a good shake will bring out any head even though there is evident carbonation rising from the glass. The aroma is of tropical flowers, guava, mangoes and even a little fresh acetone. The body is silky and oily (which is a plus) and while there is definite warmth from the alcohols, the bitterness is slightly less aggressive than the golden ale from California I consumed a couple of hours ago. There’s good fruitiness persistent in the flavour, but for all the hype and hyperbole on the label, I was expecting a beer that would grab me by the tonsils and whirl me around its head. I didn’t get that.
I’m sorry, not a star this beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Really enjoyed this beer but its not as good as some of its kiwi equivalents. Lacks a great aroma of a imperial ipa and depth in the taste. Still a nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
It’s nice boldly hoppy, but the cloudiness might be off putting. And I didn’t get it to pour with a head, but that might in this case be my ability over it’s ability. As it warms (ie as I drink more) the hop that dominates the profile flattens away to allow the hint of caramel and then the mostly grapefruit note to shine.
This is nice, and made me smile. I’d rate this higher, and it’s appearance made me frown though, it’s overly cloudy or murky. But that’s my preference. Didn’t stop me having another :-)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This bottle was 2 months past its best before, maybe that would explain its relative ordinariness. The flavours that I smelt in the aroma were all there, and nice as they were they just didn’t have much sparkle or 3-dimensionality. The most dominant feature to me was not the "fearless" hoppiness, rather the alcohol warmth in the finish. As it was, I think this would have been a good winter fireside sipper. If I didn’t live in the winterless north and if I actually had a fireside, that is.

Now being bottled in 330ml which is slightly different. When you pour this you know it is an IIPA from the get go. Big hop nose and a nice cloudy golden pour. Got a little bit of sweet caramel on the palate.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly cloudy medium sized head, diminishes quickly. Lemon peel, lychee, honey, pine, pepper, grass, cookie dough. Alcohol sweet, round bitter finish. Great fuller flavoured beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2011 750ml bottle from the brewery and tap (cask?) at Galbraith’s. Hazy orange-gold pour with a short, white head leaving heavy lace. Citrus, fruit and pine nose. Medium-heavy body and moderate carbonation (light carbonation on tap) with subtle alcohol burn. Spruce, grapefruit, orange juice, peaches and apricot, supported by a caramel malt body. Hop profile predominates in the bottled version, but Stuntman is more balanced and smoother on tap. Long, bitter and sweet finish that is vaguely oily and cheesy. Very late there is more grapefruit. Bettered by their Hopocalypse Now in several ways, but will still be enjoyed by hopheads. About a 3.5 in the bottle, find it on tap for heaps more taste and complexity!
