3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ungstrup (23984) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 7, 2005
An amber beer with a beutiful light brown head. The aroma is sweet yeasty with notes of caramel and wood. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and a dry end. I have a hard time picking up anything coffee-like in this one.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Hildigöltur (5107) - København, DENMARK - FEB 6, 2005
Reddish brown coloured. Sweet fruity and malty aroma with coconut notes. Sweet, malty and fruity flavour with a spicy touch. Slightly light bodied.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (6746) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 1, 2004
Fluffy yellow-brown head, irregular; opaque brown beer with reddish shine. Nose with dark, but sweet chocolate and banana. Som lactic notes as well. Bitterish taste, part spicey, part cocoa-powder (rather than coffee). Piquant, spicey spiking. The malt underneath strengthens the idea of the old-fashioned cocoa-powder drink. Refreshing mouthfeel, despite the cocoa connotation; medium bodied. Aftertaste is dry, medicinal-bitterish. I don’t think this is bad at all. It has, however little or nothing in common with either lambic, either Flemish Oud bruin.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - FEB 4, 2003
Bottle conditioned. Red brown , excellent thick creamy head with good lace and condition. Strange blend of milky lactose and coconut aromas which then disappear in the mouth to be replaced by oranges and spicy malt. Finishes softly with hints of spice but slightly drying. Expected a caffeine frenzy but obviously Java has other charms.

Sweet, fruity malty aroma, most is malt. Taste is bitter and very malty again. More hopbitter palate.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 bierkoning (8109) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - AUG 15, 2002
Deep dark color. Orange and liquorice in the aroma. Bit of tartness in the flavor. Orange, coreander, liquorice, caramel, coffee. Sweetish and a bit sticky. Nice, complex beer. Until 1961 in this brewery a lambic was made. Mixed with a topfermenting beer it was sold as a Dubbele Java. This beer was reintroduced in the mid-nineties, but it can’t be the same beer. Years ago I read an interview with the former brewer. He still had some bottles of the old lambic left and mixed it with a Belgian beer to get a beer resembling the former Dobbel Java.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - MAY 7, 2002
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2003 What did they do to this beer??? I was so looking forward to it. Years ago the brewer told me they were going to reintrodice a beer from an old recipe which was a mix of gueuze and flemish brown. But this isn't what I expected.... Licorice aroma. Red/brown, off-white rocky head, nice lace. Taste like a flemish red but much hoppier and less sour. Long bitter finish.
