An amber beer with a beutiful light brown head. The aroma is sweet yeasty with notes of caramel and wood. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and a dry end. I have a hard time picking up anything coffee-like in this one.

(Bottle 30 cl) Beautiful, dark brown with a warm, reddish hue. Thick and creamy light brown head. Aroma of yeast and roasted malt. Pronounced flavour of roasted malt and caramel, but actually more dry than sweetish. Comes with coriander and orange peel. Very classical Dubbel. 300705

Deep dark color. Orange and liquorice in the aroma. Bit of tartness in the flavor. Orange, coreander, liquorice, caramel, coffee. Sweetish and a bit sticky. Nice, complex beer. Until 1961 in this brewery a lambic was made. Mixed with a topfermenting beer it was sold as a Dubbele Java. This beer was reintroduced in the mid-nineties, but it can’t be the same beer. Years ago I read an interview with the former brewer. He still had some bottles of the old lambic left and mixed it with a Belgian beer to get a beer resembling the former Dobbel Java.

Bottle. Courtesy Hansen. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Amber colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter light fruity flavor. Average light bitter finish. Oily palate.

Fluffy yellow-brown head, irregular; opaque brown beer with reddish shine. Nose with dark, but sweet chocolate and banana. Som lactic notes as well. Bitterish taste, part spicey, part cocoa-powder (rather than coffee). Piquant, spicey spiking. The malt underneath strengthens the idea of the old-fashioned cocoa-powder drink. Refreshing mouthfeel, despite the cocoa connotation; medium bodied. Aftertaste is dry, medicinal-bitterish. I don’t think this is bad at all. It has, however little or nothing in common with either lambic, either Flemish Oud bruin.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Hildigöltur (5107) - København, DENMARK - FEB 6, 2005
Reddish brown coloured. Sweet fruity and malty aroma with coconut notes. Sweet, malty and fruity flavour with a spicy touch. Slightly light bodied.
