3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BT (121) - Westchester, Illinois, USA - MAR 7, 2005Poured very dark, like chocolate mixed with cherries, with a thick, creamy tan head with lace that lingers. Aroma a bit sour at first pour, but it sweetened up. Nice malts, roasty and tasty, but not outstanding.

500ml bottle. Pours cola brown with a fast diminishing head. All the usual stout flavour but a little thin and lacking creaminess. Not bad but many better stouts around.

2/3/13. Bottle. Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is sweet, dry, lightly fruity, chalky, chocolate. Taste is roasty, dry, chalky, sweet. No lacing. Light-bodied, very liquidy mouth feel; I don’t want to say watery. Medium-low carbonation. This didn’t feel like a porter to me; more like a dry stout. Didn’t love it and probably wouldn’t get it again. But not bad. Just not as full flavored or bodied as I prefer.

Cask @ JDW Elgin [290113]
Dark ruby, light tan dense head, clear, good lacing. Nose of dark caramel, toffee, soft roast, dab of chocolate. Taste of roast, dark toffee, hedgerow hop, some fruity yeast, slightly salty, dark fruity malts, quuite complex. Medium body and smooth texture, fruity palate. Finish - smooth, fruity hedgerow, bitter lingering roast with a touch of dark fruity malts, coffee and yeast, quite long linger and a bit dry.
Overall - Stout?....more like a hybrid old ale / porter...it’s good but not 90+ on rb

Cask@moonunderwater, wolverhampton. Dark brown with red hues. Aroma of dark berries. Taste is roasted coffee beans and chocolate, a nice balance with a hint of tartness. Full bodied. A very good stout indeed.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gambrinus2012 (2) - West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 26, 2012 does not count
A -Dark black with a hint of red, lovely thick creamy off white head.
S - Big notes of roasted coffee beans and chocolate
T - Initial smokiness leading to sweet caramel with a mild gentle hoppyness to finish with a hint of nuttiness
M - Gentle carbonation with a the smallest amount of gas bubbles. Leaves a sticky mouthfeel with a small amount of drying
O - Overall a very good take on a stout. More depth of aromas and flavour than standard stouts with a lovely finish on the palate.

Cask - Dark Black with a red tint and a creamy, light tan head. Smells of light roast, chocolate, malt, coffee and some hints of dry hops. Medium thin body. Tastes sweet and malty, with chocolate, and coffee and a dry strong bitter smoky finish. Some chocolate lingers in the aftermath.

Bottle from Asda part of 4 bottles for £5 offer. First time I have tried this, aroma is dark fruit, sherry and vanilla ice cream. Taste is cream, blueberries, chocolate and sweet coffee. Smooth. Very nice porter/stout, not bitter at all
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Cantabrian (382) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 22, 2012
Beautiful deep brown colour, with a clean, almost white head, nice for a stout. The nose is red wine, with a tiny touch of chocolate. Taste is perhaps too light, with the expected roasted malts, some chocolate, berries, but all too watery and diluted. The red wine is back in the finish. Nice, but I cannot see (taste) the reason for all the awards.

On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY. Kinda had this on a whim because it was lower alcohol than many of the other offerings and I had to drive later. Very acidic, and wasn’t sweet as I was expecting. Really had a red wine-ish sharpness up front with a little bit of chocolate at the end. Not bad, but a little different.
