COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask conditioned; bottle: cold filtered.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

Cask@moonunderwater, wolverhampton. Dark brown with red hues. Aroma of dark berries. Taste is roasted coffee beans and chocolate, a nice balance with a hint of tartness. Full bodied. A very good stout indeed.

Cask at the Moon under Water, deep dark mahogany with a beige head, looks more like old ale than stout. Treacle and faint spice on the nose, rich, dry-sweet with more treacle notes and a faint old ale tartness. Very nice and in excellent condition.

Bottle. Dark Black with a red tint and a creamy light tan head. Smells of light roast, chocolate, malt, coffee and some hints of dry hops. A thin body this has. Tastes sweet and malty, with chocolate, and coffee and a dry strong bitter smoky finish. Some chocolate lingers in the aftermath. Expected more malt, so just ok.

From a bottle, aroma is subdued, but a decent flavour, with a light smoke and hop finish. Decent supermarket beer.

Not much aroma. Color reminds me of coffee. Flavor is on the lighter side. More like a brown ale. Malty and easy to drink. Nice beer.

New at Liquor Shed. It pours a very dark brown with some reddish highlights, about a 1" head of off white foam. Pretty good with the lacing. It smells roast, with some dark chocolate, a bit of a fruity note or 2, and a hint of anise. The taste follows the nose except the fruitiness isn’t as noticeable. Smooth mouth feel thanks to the medium body and lightish carbonation. Last minute thought, I get a very very light smoke taste but perhaps I am wrong about that. Super smooth and yet very tasty. I am impressed.

chocolate, coffee, roasty, mahogany colour clear, tan foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, full body, creamy, soft carbonation, bitter, For a stout this is very nice but shouldn’t be really smelling of coffee. I like it though very smooth
