Catford Beer Fest. An English hoppy best bitter. Good malt. Good meld. Decent beer. A bit too old fashioned for me, but tasty enough.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 30, 2011
First tasted this at the Printing Room, Glasgow in September 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Sweet toffee note in the short aroma. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a digestive biscuit note with creamy toffee flavours. Good prickle of dusty hops present in the resiny aftertaste. Malt returns in the sweet finish with vinous oak cask notes. A decent session bitter.

From cask at Charlies. Pours cloudy orange with a lacing off-white head. Light toasted to breadish dry malt aroma. Flavour follows this with a mild fruity note in addition. Light liqourice note into the finish. Finish holds a light bitterness yet still mixed with the same malt flavours. Very pleasent biter.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Amber. Bland malty aroma. Some roast in the taste with some sharp bitterness at the finish. I find I don’t get on too well with Hambleton beers. This is an exception. Quite decent.
