3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, - OCT 10, 2009
A Mes rate. Bottle at home. Clean amber gold body with a thin white head. Sweetish nutty malt on the nose with hints of caramel. Similar flavour with some slight card and metal. Nutty finish with some eventual bitterness thank god. Saved by the finish for sure. Ends up with a pleasant balanced aftertaste. So so.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 17, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle, best before the end of Oct 2010, drank mid Oct 2010. Poured into an ’Abbot Ale’ badged tankard.
Clear and good looking amber body, an off white blanket of foam sat on top, which produced some heavy lacing as the beer sank.
Hop bitterness aroma, but not overstated, a malt presence balances out the hops, both in the smell and tastes.
As stated, a balanced brew: very drinkable and full of those ’good quality English Bitter’ flavours. An almost rich and creamy depth to it, a winters night beer and one I’d have again and again.

Bottle, Batch 2801. Chocolate, soft malts, red fruits, vinegar (bottling problems?). Smoky taste which lends the beer its characteristic bitterness, despite hints of sweetness, which leads to a tantalising dry finish. Amber body. Thin white head.

Bottle from my local offy. Clear amber with a thin to medium off white head. Has a slightly sweaty aroma but more my pleasant sweat than someone elses unpleasant stuff, some malt and caramel in there too. Flavour is malt and caramel, some floral hops, bitter and dry finish. It’s an English bitter all right and quite a tasty one.

Bottle, 4.5%. OK malty aroma with a bit of fruit and plastic. Clear grey amber colour. Small frothy white head. The flavour starts off with a rough bitterness, but clean enough. Then comes a good maltiness and later again a bit of yeast. Not bad.
