Draft. A pretty ho hum brown ale. Has a nice spicy hop presence to keep it somewhat interesting but the malt base is weaker.

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque brown/black color, solid smooth 1" beige head, sheets and strands of lace. Big aroma of toasted malt. Taste is full-bodied malt with a toasted edge that grows substantially as it moves through the palate to a solid hop finish that still allows the malt to hang around. Way bigger than 6% suggests, and way bigger than any Brown Ale Iíve ever had. Recommended.

Pour on tap at the brewery, dark reddish brown pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, nuts, some earthy notes into a bit of caramel, toffee. Taste was a mix of caramel, toffee, nutty notes into some cocoa powder, slight yeast, touch of grain.

Draft at Ei8ht Ball in April of 2014 from notes. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, chocolate, coffee notes, with a nice earthy hop character. This actually seems more like a porter sharing many characteristics with Madtree Gnarly Brown. Solid offering from a lesser known brewery.

Tap at Acadia. Smooth and thick palate. Bourbon aroma and some in the flavor with lingering bourbon finish. Heavy roast, almost like a porter. Good.

On tap, dark brown pour with a light khaki head. Aroma is big roasted malts with notes of coffee. Flavor is coffee and cocoa with a nice hop presence. Nicely balanced too. Solid brew.

Dark brown pour. Just a slight head. Just a slight smoked malt nose. Nice complex malt character with a lot of hops.

On tap @ Hammerheart. Aroma is light amounts of coffee and chocolate. Taste is so fresh and dry. Great roasted malts with a subtle bitterness getting chalky as it dries out in the finish. Really good brown ale.

Draft in a taster at Ei8ht Ball. Strange to see a Minnesota brewery Iíve never heard of down here, but apparently there are some Kentucky ties. Pours a deep, almost opaque brown with a small beige head. Notes of roasted and toasted malts, coffee, chocolate, tobacco, and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a roasty, dry mouthfeel. More of a porter than a brown ale. But hey, if itís a brown ale, itís a damn good one.

Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Very dark brown, totally hazy body. Looks nearly black. Great thicker tan / light brown head. Leaves excellent, thicker lace. Awesome aroma on this! Cocoa nib in the nose, big coffee in the flavor... Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Good big full body for 6%, kind of chewy, chewier than many stouts of this ABV, even. Nice moderate amount of earthy hop character, more hop than your typical brown ale but not approaching IBA levels... The big, super-interesting malt profile is what shines here most. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Lightly slick finish. Some light cinnamon, brown sugar, oatmeal cookie type notes in the aftertaste... Fantastic brown ale. One of the best Iíve had in a while. Very complex and flavorful, yet well-rounded and well-integrated.
