Gravity, Leicester 2011. Mahogany, good as pitch with a beige halo. Twiglets and fresh compost aroma. Complex, deep savoury flavour; roasted aubergine dabbed with Marmite, roasted nuts and Bovril tones, honeyed burnt meat, beef jerky. Fine, meaty porter.

Bottle from Pallant of Arundel. BB Sept 2015. Roast malt, licorice aroma. Fine tan head with loads of lacing over black beer. Thick mouthfeel. Bitterness of herbal hops upfront then complex flavours come to the fore. Burnt licorice, cocoa, rich roast malt, leather, spruce. Dry, resinous, dark malty finish.

Cask. More or less black colour with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some slight nutty and ashy notes along with mild toffee and some chocolate to it as well. Flavour is nutty, chocolaty, some ashes, roasted malts as well as some slight tobaccoish notes to it.

Bottled. Dark brown with lace. Almost flat. Lightly oxidized nose with caramel, chocolate, coffee. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, must, wood. Decent. Somewhat flat, and probably too old, but enjoyable.

Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Fest2013)
Lovely chocolate cake and fresh coffee aroma. Nearly black small spongy head. Lovely full smooth palate. Excellent burnt retronaslas that turn into stale coffee on swallowing. No astringency, though. Some noble hoppy bite too. An excellent English porter. Good drinkability.

Cask at Gallow’s Bird real ale festival. Dark brown in color with thin bubbly head. Roasted and then more roasted coffee in aroma. Coffee and sligthly bitter chocolate in taste at first. Has got the same weird taste ast Arbor’s Oyster Stout. Milk chocolate too in aroma later on. Hints of licorice and even some light hoppy notes in finish.
