rauchbier (2873), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Jan 16, 2008 Bottle conditioned, courtesy of David Smith. Hazy gold, thin but lasting white head and good condition. Fruity tart apple and yeasty ester in the nose, dominant yeastiness in the mouth that becomes dry and bitter, although some floral hop comes through and a trace of citrus, finish is briefly sweet with more yeasty bitterness lingering and a faint phenolic plastic note at the end.
Fin (2189), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jun 10, 2008 Bottle picked up at the Naked Grape off licence, Alresford, Near Wincester, Hamps, 07-06-08 consumed 10-06-08 Pours warm gold initially clear, but then gets predicatably hazier with my clumsy pouring. Aroma’ are of light citrus hop but with a touch of sweetness. I really enjoyed the flavour and can only guess that I got a much better bottle than the previous two raters. There was a nice sweet fruitiness initially which then morphed into a sweetish lemon torte or lemon meringue type flavour not as sweet as I expected and the citrus was really quite nicely hidden in there, I think that this is my first from this brewery but one would I hope that it won’t be my last. Mes_and_Sim (4365), Highgate, Greater London, England May 28, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle thanks to Tashi. Bright gold with a thin white head. Tangerine hop aroma, a little on a harsh side. Even more so in the flavour. Astringent and rather nasty yeast with some floral hops and a bitter finish. Bit of a fail. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Sep 29, 2007 Cask conditioned @ Guide Dog. Pleasant spicy citric hops with a little alcohol and growing malty sweetness. This would be pretty decent if the sweetness was a bit more restrained. harrisoni (5149), Ashford, Kent, England Mar 6, 2007 Cask handpull at Evening Star, Brighton. Gold, huh, no kidding. Thin off white head. In the Hopback Summer Lightning, Exmoor Gold terriotory here. Some citrus hop aroma, slightly sweet in mouth. Straw, citrus hop finish. does what is says on the tin. Alcohol gives it heat and body. Competent, but not exactly breaking new ground.
