Bottle from Bitter Virtue. Reasonably subtly spiced with a hint of warming ginger and generic sweet spice (cinnamon and nutmegish smells) giving it a slightly earthy musky aroma. The toffee and malt flavours are not excessive and dont overpower the spice. Moderate but not unbalancing earthy hop bitterness in the finish which doesnt clash with the spice flavours. Quite successful and better than other Hammerpot beers I’ve tried.

Flavour is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120115]

50cl bottle from the Home Brew Shop, Aldershot. Deep amber with a ring of white head; the aroma has ginger and yeast; sweet fruity flavour with some light Christmas spices; and a dry herbal finish with a lingering touch of ginger. Not bad.

BeerViking (1055) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 5, 2011
Cask at the Magpie & Crown, poured a deep amber with a thin clingy white head, ginger, hops and a little bready yeast on the nose, chewy malty body with a gingery tang, plus nut and orange notes, and enough alcohol to mostly (but not quite) balance out the sweetness, which got a bit cloying as the glass warmed up. Faint note of cloves in the aftertaste.

Cask pint, and very nearly the first pint. Well conditioned with a tight head on top of a clear dark brown body. A spicy nose, with hints of Calpol. The mouthfeel is quite sweet and a little sticky. The finish is also sweet and the calpol aroma really comes through in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Orange and poured flat.Spicy and slightly ginger. In some ways it tastes like an alcoholic ginger beer. A novelty that didn’t quite come off.

50cl bottle- Copper coloured with a slight haze. The aroma is malty and spicy with a mild but pleasant ginger scent. The taste is malty with ginger also featuring along with a nice light hoppiness. The spice is noticeable but not too overwhelming and nicely balanced. Very drinkable.
