Cask at the Magpie. Deep chestnut and in lovely condition. Coffee and vinous malt nose, then dry roast malt, hint of dark chocolate, dark fruit, finish is dry and gently roast, with more coffee notes.

Cask at the White Lion, Aldershot at a stated ABV of 3.4%. Chestnut with a ring of white head; and a fruity malt aroma; incredibly soft in the mouth, with gently malts and some red fruit and licorice; then some depply roasted malts and light hops giving a dry smoky finish. Very easy drinking.

[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading] Red-brown, quite pale for a modern mild. Hints of fruit (blackberries?), straw and malt with a slightly dry and bitter finish. Overall rather bland and watery.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at Reading Beer Festival.
Decent dark brown looks with a thin white film. A little raw and appley but some slight coffee and roasted malt notes just about save the day. Not amazing.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, April 2006. Very dark colour. Slightly vinous aroma. There’s some light malt in the flavour but generally its more fruity than roasty and the palate. The firm malt comes through more on the finish and it ends up quite dry and firm. Plenty of flavour for 3.2%. A very decent mild.

Cask@Ealing Beer On Broadway. Quite light as per style, but very pleasant. Some lightly sweet chocolate and caramel, with subtle roastyness towards the finish. Palate borders on watery, but it still manages to cover a decent portion of the tongue.
