johndoughty (1681), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Oct 28, 2003 Not as much flavour and complexity as for some reason I expected. Reddish appearance with a hint of fruit and bitterness. Not the real thing but not a bad attempt at replicating it.
SilkTork (3941), Rochester, Kent, England Aug 7, 2003 Cask, Dog & Bone, Gillingham Copper coloured. Served slightly warm. Oak aroma. Strong flavour of juicy red apples. Flat watery finish with a nutty quality - no bitter hops at all. Not impressed. rauchbier (2874), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England May 7, 2003 Bottle conditioned. Chestnut red colour, good but thin white head and moderate condition. Aroma started with chocolate malt and caramel before an unusual earthy woodland note took over. Chocolate again in the mouth but with a sneaking suspicion that someone has dumped some tree bark in my beer. Mascerated twigs and moss in the aftertaste. Ooh look, a rabbit! Weird, highly drinkable and English, how bizarre.
leaparsons (4001), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Nov 26, 2002 Brewed to celebrate California’s craft brewers. This is a deep red beer with a light fruity aroma. Sweet malts are followed by pine needles (!). This beer doesn’t quite cross the "over bitterness line". Good.
