2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1205) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JAN 3, 2012
Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in June 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear reddish amber in colour with a thick white head. Slight malt note in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a digestive biscuit note with boiled redcurrant jam in the mouth. Strong metallic tang of bitter hop resins impart a dry note to the aftertaste. Finish is slightly malty with tart redcurrant fruit present in the mouth. An ok session bitter.

Handpulled cask at Crosse Keys(JDW) Monument, London, during recent International beer fest. Orange with a good lasting white head, in very lively condition. Good body and well balanced with juicy malts and citric hop notes. Decent.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 wheresthepath (1285) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - JUN 19, 2008
[on cask at Nag’s Head, Reading] Deep amber/orange with a slight but lasting white head. Surprisingly rich - flavours are malt, leaves, some earthiness, a bit of sweet rhubarb crumble and maybe a hint of honey leaving a rather sweet, almost sticky palatte - there’s not a lot of bitterness here. The stickiness made it taste like a stronger beer than its ABV suggested - in fact, reminded me a little of Fullers ESB. Not bad at all for a bitter.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 HogcliffeLenny (162) - Christchurch, Dorset, ENGLAND - JUN 18, 2008
Bottle 500ml from Tesco’s, New Milton. Bottle conditioned. Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a small white head. Not a heavy aroma, but what there was was a kind of fruity/hoppy. Medium bodied; quite bitter in taste, with some fruits coming through as well. The bitterness lingers on for a while – can’t say I particularly noticed the dryness.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mountainforest (128) - Mississippi, USA - MAR 30, 2008
Fun to try it at the Standing Order (Edinburgh) during their Ale Festival - cheap. What a deal. A bitter, but not too bitter at all. Easy to drink. Can see how it won an award.
