PUGACHEVíS COBRA: The brainchild of Victor Pugachev -- not for the faint of heart. Pilot suddenly raises the aircraft nose to near vertical before dropping back to attack mode. Get ready for an assault on your senses with PUGACHEVíS COBRA, an intense Russian Imperial Stout. This rich, black beauty with a thick caramel head is bursting with aromas of chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon, licorice and dark fruits, while flavors of chocolate-covered plum, sweet malt, bourbon, and roasted coffee explode on your pallet. Enjoyed this one with a good beer buddy Saturday night. Thanks Darrel!! Pours thick and oily, still a long lasting dark brown head rises up and sticks around for a while. Nose is bigger RIS elements, dark malt+bittersweet chocolate meshing nicely with rich bourbon/vanilla notes... Flavor has all the same rich RIS notes and still a battering ram of bourbon is pleasant... No doubt there is a pretty heavy EtOH presence, but it is not out of whack and this bottle handles the heavy ABV without ever getting cloyingly sweet. Pretty damn good... I am loving this one.

On tap at Harryís Hofbrau. Massive alcohol and vanilla nose. Slight chocolate. Black with a brown head that lingers as a collar. Flavors of chocolate, whiskey, deep fruit. Floral notes in support. Moderate chalky chocolate. Nice bourbon finish. Silky texture and oily. Beautiful.

2013 bottle at 13.8% ABV. Aroma is rich with quite a bit of chocolate, lighter roast and coffee, moderate bourbon, light oaks and vanilla. Medium light maple note. Light licorice note, dark fruit and medium light alcohol spice. Pours black with a medium thick, light mocha head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges where it lingers nicely. Light lacing and medium long legs. Flavor has a light sweetness with a moderate chocolate note and medium light roast character. Medium bourbon character with light oak notes. Moderate dark fruit notes of plum, prune and and dark figs. Lingering bitter chocolate notes with moderate alcohol spice. Light licorice and vanilla character. More dark fruit as it warms. Faint hints of maple. Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium low carbonation. Medium low astringency with medium alcohol warmth. Overall this is a pretty hot beer and not as good as I remember previous versions being, but it is still a pretty good imperial stout. Light maple with quite a bit of bourbon character. Decent dark fruit notes. Nice chocolate notes.

Big name breweries canít hide the enormity of this beer. Sweet, smooth, thick, chocolaty with just enough of a bourbon edge and alcohol support. This will be famous!
