COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
PUGACHEV’S COBRA: The brainchild of Victor Pugachev -- not for the faint of heart. Pilot suddenly raises the aircraft nose to near vertical before dropping back to attack mode. Get ready for an assault on your senses with PUGACHEV’S COBRA, an intense Russian Imperial Stout. This rich, black beauty with a thick caramel head is bursting with aromas of chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon, licorice and dark fruits, while flavors of chocolate-covered plum, sweet malt, bourbon, and roasted coffee explode on your pallet. Three different dark roasted malts and rich maple syrup are combined in a truly unique brewing process to create complexity and depth. Once fermented, it’s then aged for eight months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels. This powerful concoction is designed to be enjoyed now with friends or cellared to perfection and savored in the years to come.

Bomber poured into a tulip glass. Black pour with a small tan head. Nose is strong bourbon and vanilla, very sweet. Taste is chocolate, brown sugar, coffee, roast, malt, booze; a little hot. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. This is not up there with BT and BCBS, for example, but an awesome beer nonetheless.

Bottle from the Best Damn Beer Shop in San Diego. Pours near black with a thin tan head and a treacle and bourbon aroma. There is a hearty chocolate and dark fruit flavor with an oak finish and a warm alcohol trail. A great sipper.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2013 The beer is near black with a thin beige head. The aroma offers roast, barrels, booze, chocolate. The flavor imparts chocolate and heavy bourbon, exceeding the aroma. Quite nice. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Tasty beer. Heat in the finish. Solid.

Thick black pour with a small tan head. Huge bourbon and vanilla aromas. Fudge, dark chocolate, and brown sugar, some coffee, and a nice roasted malt character. Really smooth on the nose. The flavor lets on to the alcohol content, but not overly hot. Rich bourbon, fudge, vanilla, oak, and roasted malt. Nice coffee, dark fruit, brown sugar, and licorice notes as well. Great body and very sticky on the palate.

Tap at the brewery. Inky pour. Small mocha foam with decent swathes of lace. Nose is very rich German chocolate cake, toasted coconut, buttercream carrot cake frosting. Taste is very rich, sweet, big dessert profile, coconut, dark chocolate, toasted pistachio, sweet alcohol. Heavy, boozy, dense, but drinkable. 4oz is perfect. Pair with ice cream or mousse. Decadent though would be overpowering in its 750mL format. Bring this bottle to a tasting.

Acquired in a trade. 750ML C&C enjoyed at 59 Degrees F in a snifter.

A - Pours a near midnight black. In the glass, pitch black, not viscous on the pour. 1 finger coffee colored head that fades almost instantly. Very interesting characteristics compared to other big stouts.

S - I can smell the bourbon as soon as the cork pops. In the glass, dark chocolate, heavy cocoa, freshly ground espresso beans dipped in chocolate. Lots of vanilla and heavy charred smokiness. Bourbon stays around for a while.

T - Wow. Up front, huge roasted dark malts. Smoked and chocolate malts. Some raisins and figs come through in the middle with a semi-sweet vanilla taste. The finish spicy licorice, coffee and cane sugar. Booziness sticks around.

M - The mouth feel is insane. The beer coats ever aspect of my mouth like a sip of bourbon. It tingles the front and middle of my tongue. Sticks around and remains chocolatey with booze. Heavy body, light carbonation.

O - This is an incredible beer. It’s not as great as BCBS or Damon or Speedway stout but, on its own, it stands strong and tastes fantastic.
