PUGACHEVíS COBRA: The brainchild of Victor Pugachev -- not for the faint of heart. Pilot suddenly raises the aircraft nose to near vertical before dropping back to attack mode.

Get ready for an assault on your senses with PUGACHEVíS COBRA, an intense Russian Imperial Stout. This rich, black beauty with a thick caramel head is bursting with aromas of chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon, licorice and dark fruits, while flavors of chocolate-covered plum, sweet malt, bourbon, and roasted coffee explode on your pallet. Three different dark roasted malts and rich maple syrup are combined in a truly unique brewing process to create complexity and depth. Once fermented, itís then aged for eight months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels. This powerful concoction is designed to be enjoyed now with friends or cellared to perfection and savored in the years to come.

From a 75 cl bottle shared at home. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of licorice and bourbon. Flavors of dark stone fruits, oak and vanilla. Sweet, boozy finish.

popery (2017) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 9, 2016
Bottle. Deep, dark roasted malt. Itís all burnt sugars and vanilla and fudgey chocolatey goodness. The beer is black from wall to wall. Very small head. It was hard to kick up any substantial blanket of bubbles even with a vigorous pour. Only a thin layer of bubbles remains after a minute or so. Lots of vanilla in the aroma. Sweet bourbon barrel blends into the chocolate and caramel sweetness nicely. Taste is sweet and full of big stout. Some mild but definite maple complexity. Lots of dark, sweet sugars. Excellent interaction between the stout and the barrel flavors. Smooth, full mouthfeel. Very well made.

Large shared bottle. This stout reflects high quality and relatively strong bourbon barrel aging. This helps make it rather boozy but it befits the aroma and flavor. The dark body has nice red-brown highlights when held to the light. Fine and long lasting aftertaste of dark roasted grains, vanilla and bourbon barrels. Smooth but a bit too hot.

This is an extremely aggressive high alcohol beer. An excellent choice for beer number 5000, itís very roasted with some chocolate thick and strong . Iím feeling pretty good now:-)

Tasting at Mattís; 18.9%, bottle 1353/11220, vintage 2014
Black color, small head. Boozy aroma, thick mouthfeel, a lot of tar, some chocolate, too strong burning alcohol, some vanilla, and some liquorice in the final.
Good but I canít picture myself drinking too much of this, so why is this bottled in 750ml?

tightslice (1001) - Redwood City, California, USA - DEC 21, 2015
Location: Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City, CA. 2015 Edition (13.5%)
Appearance: Pours a black oil with almost no head
Aroma: Fudge brownie with nuts, licorice, all kinds of liqueurs (chocolate, cherry, coffee), vanilla, caramel, brittle, bourbon, whiskey & coke
Taste: Strong chocolate brownies up front with some salty, nutty notes. Flavors dissipate pretty quickly and are overwhelmed by the BOOZINESS of this beer. Loads of bourbon which is expected, but not as balanced as I had hoped for.
Overall: Amazing aromas of chocolate fudge brownies and licorice but ultimately pummeled under the weight of the alcohol.

Pitch black and opaque with a two finger dark beige head that has good retention, slowly fading onto a thick, lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Spicy bourbon barrel aroma but itís nicely integrated into notes of the base beer. Strong bourbon and burnt oak presence along with some vanilla and toasted coconut. Still plenty of roast underneath the strong barrel character with hints of dark chocolate, toast, burnt sugar and coffee bean along with booze and sweeter malt notes. On the fuller end of medium body and slightly viscous with a blast of spicy, boozy heat. Tons of bourbon flavor pounding you over the head along with dry toasted oak and subtle vanilla bean. Lots of bourbon heat, almost too much so, dominating and overpowering the other flavors. Tastes too young for my liking. After the palate adjusts, thereís a nice sweet malt presence along with some subtle roast with hints of dark chocolate, caramel and coffee bean. Some decent flavors underneath the barrel but itís overwhelmingly boozy and a bit one dimensional.
