A well executed HAMMERHEAD is smooth and dramatic. This beer is no exception. Hammerhead is a big, complex, American-style Barleywine featuring two English caramel malts and four American hops. Hammerhead’s character is enhanced by dry hopping and then aging the deep amber liquid for six months in charred oak rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. Spicy aromas spill from the glass: rich caramel, citrusy hops, bourbon and oak. Layered flavors of toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, spice and rye whiskey lead to a warm and slightly bitter finish. This is a strong ale, meant to be sipped, savored and enjoyed. Additional Information: Hammerhead: A ¼ loop to vertical, airspeed decreases and plane appears to stall. Nose then rotates and plane descends on vertical down line and out with ¼ loop.

Bottle. Huge caramel, butterscotch, vanilla, and toffee. Big, sweet, sticky. The whiskey barrel is very present and awesome.

Draft @ Ale Arsenal. Pours a dark amber to brown in color with virtually no head. Aroma is mostly bourbon and oak with some caramel and dark fruits. Palate of caramel, brown sugar, bourbon and oak with a hint of vanilla and rye. Fairly solid barrel-aged barley wine, although not nearly the best I’ve tasted.

I drank this on tap @ the Libertine Pub for New years. Rich, complex, and full of oak and bourbon. The alcohol is pretty well hidden and the finish is smooth.

Aroma of black currant, alcohol and sweet molasses. Clear copper brown with off white head. Vanilla aroma as it warmed. Deep plum and bourbon. Great residual sweetness.

shared 2014 bottle by a friend. poured a murky amber colour with no real head. just a white ring on top. barley, malts, sweet caramel, toffee, rye, vanilla, plums, red fruits, oak, vanilla, the bourbon is a bit hidden. nice thick mouthfeel, but I was expecting just such a complex oak age as the pugachev
