A well executed HAMMERHEAD is smooth and dramatic. This beer is no exception. Hammerhead is a big, complex, American-style Barleywine featuring two English caramel malts and four American hops. Hammerhead’s character is enhanced by dry hopping and then aging the deep amber liquid for six months in charred oak rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. Spicy aromas spill from the glass: rich caramel, citrusy hops, bourbon and oak. Layered flavors of toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, spice and rye whiskey lead to a warm and slightly bitter finish. This is a strong ale, meant to be sipped, savored and enjoyed. Additional Information: Hammerhead: A ¼ loop to vertical, airspeed decreases and plane appears to stall. Nose then rotates and plane descends on vertical down line and out with ¼ loop.

Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, wood, alcohol, caramel, and some spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, lots of alcohol, wood, vanilla, whiskey, as well as some fruits, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. The alcohol burns lightly on the palate.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of thome50. Pours a cloudy opaque amber with a tiny, rough white head. Overripe fruit, caramel and heavy booze. Medium body, lowish carbonation, caramel and sweet oak, some licorice allsorts - and massive booze, actually appears stronger than 13.8%. No real bitterness. 131112

Almost mahogany in color with minimal head. The nose is somewhat boozy. Lots of bourbon, wood, and vanilla, but good caramel and toffee, too. Quite a bit of brown sugar, as well. The flavor is sweet and boozy, as expected. A nice dark fruit aroma, brown sugar, toffee, and caramel. Good barrel charter of bourbon and vanilla, not that much wood, though.

750 c&c thanks to Fred at Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA who is always great at getting good beers for web orders. Pours dark amber with almost no head. Aroma of fruit and rye. And vanilla. Med body. Flavor is sweet, rye, vanilla, and suddenly a lot of brown sugar with maple. There’s oak and maple in the finish. Very, very nice.
