A well executed HAMMERHEAD is smooth and dramatic. This beer is no exception. Hammerhead is a big, complex, American-style Barleywine featuring two English caramel malts and four American hops. Hammerhead’s character is enhanced by dry hopping and then aging the deep amber liquid for six months in charred oak rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. Spicy aromas spill from the glass: rich caramel, citrusy hops, bourbon and oak. Layered flavors of toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, spice and rye whiskey lead to a warm and slightly bitter finish. This is a strong ale, meant to be sipped, savored and enjoyed. Additional Information: Hammerhead: A ¼ loop to vertical, airspeed decreases and plane appears to stall. Nose then rotates and plane descends on vertical down line and out with ¼ loop.

A top notch beer, this looks, smells and tastes mile a rich molasses dominated barley wine. 13.9% is quite a punch. The only real drawback is that I had a bit of heartburn the next day.

Bottle from Hi-Time. Aroma was of bourbon and caramel with hints of butterscotch and milk chocolate. Flavor had a perfect balance of bourbon and rich, caramel notes in the barley wine. The hops were nearly unnoticeable, rather balanced the maltiness of this beer admirably. I absolutely love this brew. Amazing beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured into Belgian styled glass. Pours a rich caramel color. The nose is sweet, also reminiscent of caramel. Lightly carbonated with a chocolate coffee flavor. This packs a strong punch and is delicious like a top Belgian beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Smells like a wine, kind of like a barley wine. I don’t know what else to say, the deScription is pretty spot on.

"So complex and so delicious, it it is up there with the likes of Abacus and King Henry (though I’ll leave it at #3 in my head til I can have it agian). A beautiful beer, barreled perfectly. So muxh going on, vanilla, oak, bourbon, spice, a touch of bitter in the finish. WOW!"

Great big aromas of caramel. Rich thick brown body with lasting and lacing tan head. Smooth thigh nuttiness dries to a licorice finish.

I bought this for a friend who enjoys whiskey as a birthday gift. This beer is intense! Huge aroma of brown sugar and whiskey. Dark dark opaque pour. Taste is incredible blend of a vanilla, brown sugar, molasses with bitter edges from whiskey aging. Incredibly smooth and full bodied beer, one of the more intense beers I’ve had in a long time.

(Bottle) Pours deep reddish brown with a creamy fat, nougat-ish head. The aroma holds fat but rounded oak profile of dill, wood and vanilla with malt support of caramel, brown sugar, roasted cookies and dark bread. Se resinous hops and a whisper of warming alcohol. Well balanced nose. The flavour is medium sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with balanced, jet aggressive tones from spicy/woodsy oak, fat malt, numbing alcohol and resinous hops. The mouthfeel is creamy, soft, velvety and numbing with a soft carbonation. Alcohol, more prominent oak and clear hops on the finish. Near full bodied.

I drank this on tap @ the Libertine Pub for New years. Rich, complex, and full of oak and bourbon. The alcohol is pretty well hidden and the finish is smooth.
