A well executed HAMMERHEAD is smooth and dramatic. This beer is no exception. Hammerhead is a big, complex, American-style Barleywine featuring two English caramel malts and four American hops. Hammerhead’s character is enhanced by dry hopping and then aging the deep amber liquid for six months in charred oak rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. Spicy aromas spill from the glass: rich caramel, citrusy hops, bourbon and oak. Layered flavors of toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, spice and rye whiskey lead to a warm and slightly bitter finish. This is a strong ale, meant to be sipped, savored and enjoyed. Additional Information: Hammerhead: A ¼ loop to vertical, airspeed decreases and plane appears to stall. Nose then rotates and plane descends on vertical down line and out with ¼ loop.

On draft at hangar for the bottle release. Aroma is sweet brown sugar, booze, and a touch of honey. Taste is sweet caramel, toasted grains and a touch of spice. Finishes nice with some bourbon but not as boozy as i thought it would be. Great release again for barrel rolls.

2012 bottle, aged 28 months in a 60*f wine cellar. Hazy ruby brown body with fleeting ivory head. Big pit fruit, lightly oxidized dark caramel, dark raisin aromas with whiskey vanilla, dry wood. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Nice pit fruit, toasted caramel, vanilla whiskey sweet flavors with grainy maltage, and some sherry oxidation____warming vanilla whiskey boozy finish----very tasty.

A fantastic barleywine, probably the best we've had. Pours a beautiful deep red/brown with a super thick tan head. Smells great, lots of bourbon, some oak and vanilla. Taste starts with lots of bourbon, some spices and oak chips coming in at the middle, with a finish of caramel and vanilla, almost like ice cream that sticks on your tounge. Very complex, and a great finish. Paired with black and blue steak, the beer is smoothed out. Had in the bottle.

Bottle share. Snifter pour. Poured a muddy dark brown with small head. The aroma was dark fruits, wood barrel, caramel malts, and bourbon. The taste was fairly complex with oak, booze, dark fruits, rich creamy caramelized malts, and vanilla. Thick mouth, full body. Finish was booze, barrel, and caramel.

Pours mohagany brown. Enjoyed with my wife while looking at house thinking Hard to believe its 3 rd move coming in bout six years. Nose has light whiskey, vanilla, caramel, toffee. Taste follows, bourbon sweetness lingers. Sweetness prevails. Nice lacing pattern left at the end.

Smells like a wine, kind of like a barley wine. I don’t know what else to say, the description is pretty spot on.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2014 2014 vintage. Deep ruby dark brown with medium sized lasting creamy beige head. The given description describes it well. Very balanced aroma and flavor. Barrel character stays complimentary. Alcohol is fairly well hidden mostly. Lighter full to bigger medium body. Soft and creamy. Really nice finish. This is a very good beer, but nothing memorable really stands out about it I guess, or maybe its me that’s just blah.. I guess ill remember it for being really well put-together.

Bottle @ Steve’s house. Thanks Steve! Pours a touch hazy, reddish orange appearance with a brown head. Caramel, burnt malty, toffee, whiskey, oaky, slightly floral nose. Pretty hoppy flavor. Herbal hops. Chewy malts. Some oxidation. Caramel, a touch smoky. Toffee. Plums. Kind of boozy finish but still a pretty çhïłł beer.

Pour out of 750 ml bottle, big thanks to Steve! 2014 bottle. Hazy dark red pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of bourbon, whiskey, oak, vanilla, touch of brown sugar, dark fruit. Taste is a mix of dark chocolate, oak, vanillla, dark fruit, chocolate, hints of earth, finishing fairly sweet, dry.

Bottle. Ruddy brown pour with a light tan head. Aromas of sticky toffee, hourbon, brown sugar, figs, and oak. Just smells wonderful. Flavor is candied dark fruits and bourbon with touches of oak. Warming finish from the abv but not overwhelming. Delicious.
