COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A well executed HAMMERHEAD is smooth and dramatic. This beer is no exception. Hammerhead is a big, complex, American-style Barleywine featuring two English caramel malts and four American hops. Hammerhead’s character is enhanced by dry hopping and then aging the deep amber liquid for six months in charred oak rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. Spicy aromas spill from the glass: rich caramel, citrusy hops, bourbon and oak. Layered flavors of toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, spice and rye whiskey lead to a warm and slightly bitter finish. This is a strong ale, meant to be sipped, savored and enjoyed. Additional Information: Hammerhead: A ¼ loop to vertical, airspeed decreases and plane appears to stall. Nose then rotates and plane descends on vertical down line and out with ¼ loop.

Rating 4444. 750 ml bottle shared by b3shine- thanks again, Beau! Bottle 552/5520, according to Chris. Pours a cloudy amber color with a beige ring for a head. Notes of caramel, vanilla, dried fruits, brown sugar, coconut, and bourbon throughout. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, warming mouthfeel. Nice barrel aged barley wine.

750ml bottle, shared by b3shine. #552 / 5520. Hazy amber / orange color. Thin off-white bubbly head. Dots of lace. Very nice dark fruit, vanilla nose. Big body. Smooth, kind of creamy texture. Very light carbonation. Good sweet taste. Some light heat, doesn’t taste like 14%. Nice long bourbon malty complex dark fruit light earthy hop light spicy aftertaste. Delicious stuff.

Bottle. Pours brown with white head. Soapy hop aroma. Taste and aroma are soapy hoppy and vanilla.

750 ml bottle to snifter (shared by me with the group; thanks darkmoon66). Looks good; a murky brown with off-white lacing. Smells good too; sweet and boozy. Tastes like it smells with a nice mouthfeel. Good stuff!

750ml, corked & caged bottle, 2012 edition, #568/5520. pours a hazy, deep russet brown with hints of ruby capped by a whispy, beige head that leaves tight rings of lace. aroma is excellent with heavy notes of toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, molasses, and baked pie crusts backed by dried figs, raisin bread, cinnamon, and heavy toasted oak with spicy, rich whiskey emerging as it warms. flavor is truly superb with smooth, rich, rye whiskey, oak, vanilla, and toasted coconut up front backed by more sweet toffee, baked pears, cinnamon rolls, with dry, earthy hops, and subtle orchard fruits brining up the back end. palate is medium bodied with light carbonation and a lingering finish of sweet brown sugar and warming, spicy whiskey. overall, an excellent barrel aged barleywine.

Had on tap and from a bomber. Orangish gold pour with thin head. Nose of orange, sweet malt, booze, and wood. Taste follows the nose with a decent punch of hops for an aged beer. Tap version was really good. Bottled version was a bit oxidized. Choosing to look more at the better experience.

Poured from bottle on 04/26/13. Deep brown with medium tan head. Tons of boozyness, vanilla, toffee flavors come through. This was a solid BA barley wine that I think will get better with age.

Pours golden orange with a one finger white head. The nose is bananas, caramel, brown sugar with hints of cinnamon. The taste is medium high sweet and medium low bitter. It's kind of one dimensional though. I definitely don't detect any of the barrel. The texture is soft and creamy, body is heavy and finish is long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber into a tulip. Mahogany in color with a small beige head. Boozy, bourbon aroma. Flavors are caramel, whiskey, rye, vanilla. Very tasty.
