Rich and decadent. This strong porter is perfect for sipping at the end of the day or to accompany full-flavored foods. The intense, roasty flavor comes from two types of chocolate malt and raw cocoa nibs. Whole vanilla beans introduced post fermentation add complexity and enhance the dessert-like qualities of this full bodied beer. Indulge yourself! Additional Information: This beer began life as our Panamanian Porter with the flavors of chocolate, vanilla and banana. A truly unique beer, we felt that all those flavors needed some smoothing out so we changed yeast strains and eliminated the banana flavor (Which came from the yeast strain). The Panamanian Porter did have many fans however, and there may be plans in the future to bring it back for a special occasion. Stay tuned…

From a growler, thanks to JoetheYounger. Pours ebony with a tall khaki head. Rich nose of caramel and cocoa. As it warms a soft licorice and vanilla note bring out complexity. Some definite diacetyl, but not off putting with the chocolate flavors. Finish has some perceived dryness from the cocoa powder notes. Body is heavy and smooth, nice creamy texture enhances the chocolate notes. Maybe a touch on the bitter side and could use a bit of black malt for some grit, but a really tasty porter none the less.

Bottle pours deep brown/black with a thick beige head. Aroma shows heavy roast with notes of cocoa, coffee, molasses, alcohol, and earthy hops. Flavor is fairly sweet with notes of cocoa, burnt peanut brittle, anise, overripe dark fruit, and a touch of vanilla. Overall body is moderate, sweet and the finish is somewhat astringent with a definite alcohol presence.

Batch 24 on draft at KnB Wine Cellar in San Diego, CA. March, 2013. Pitch black and opaque with a 1.5 finger beige head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Slightly chalky aroma with cocoa powder, roasted malt and sweet dessert-like notes. Lots of chocolate in the nose along with cocoa nib, coffee bean and caramel sweetness. On the fuller end of medium body with a nice balance of roasted malt, coffee bean, bittersweet dark chocolate and toffee. Strong chocolate presence, dark and sweet, with robust coffee bean flavor but it never becomes overly roasted or dry. Very nicely balanced and easy to drink with no noticeable alcohol/heat.

Pours a deep brownish black from the bomber with thin bubbly tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, earthy hop notes, a hint of soy, and fruity yeast. Taste follows with just a hint of vanilla in the middle. Solid, not sure it’s fresh, but good stuff.

22oz bomber pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a smooth thin spike of dark fruity esters and then chocolate followed by an earthy malt note and dark roasted almost coffee like maltiness. The taste delivers nice dark roasted malts blended evenly with chocolate and then rolling toward smooth sweet vanilla. It gets a little molasses candy here and there as it heads toward the finish. Nice.

Bottle that I had put in the freezer and forgot about it till I got back from swimming in LT. Good thing high ABV kept it from freezing. Pours a very dark brown color and nice tan head. Milk chocolate and cream on the nose. Mouthfeel is silky smooth and creamy on the tongue. The flavor is creamy chocolate and some vanilla. As usual, better and creamier as it warms.
