COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Essence, the third release in the Local Fields Series, takes the citrusy character of a traditional West Coast Double IPA and amplifies it with the addition of Southern California citrus fruits. This IPA, already brimming with intense hop aroma from the Cascade and Zythos, gets an additional boost of bright citrus from generous additions of fresh, local Navel & Blood Oranges and Grapefruit. Essence, while intense, is equally refreshing and enjoyable with a pleasant, lingering bitterness. Additional Information: This beer represents the “Essence” of Southern California: fresh, local citrus in a hoppy IPA. It also represents the “Essence” of Hangar 24 and how combining citrus with beer has fueled our success. We source the best fruits from the top farms in Southern California to bring you this one of a kind drinking experience.

From a drinkability standpoint, you could NOT tell this was 8.5%. Bright vibrant spice, citrus and florals. Even more citrus in the flavor. Enough bitterness to notice, but not biting. Quite smooth. A nice ipa/iipa."

22oz bomber pours with a nice opaque deep gold body that has a copper core and supports a near white head. The aroma offers up a mix of juicy smelling mango and tangelo and pineapple and then it gets into some resiny pine hoppiness. The taste starts with a mix of resiny pine hops and citrusy orange hoppiness. Toward midway it picks up spicy onion like hoppiness just as it starts to pick up some citrus hop juiciness. It attains mainly a blend of citrusy hops and resiny pine hops that are just not working together 100%. It’s fine and tasty but it doesn’t come together perfectly.

22 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Hazy golden orange with almost 3 fingers of off-white head. Nice lacing. Aromas of floral notes, citrus fruit and peel, caramel. Tastes of orange and grapefruit citrus fruit and peel, floral notes and hops, a bit of caramel and honey. Medium body with a dry finish. Juicy mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

Aroma was very contrast and happy. Appearance was clear. Taste was good. Not to happy for the style. Very enjoyable IPA.

If tasted without other IPAs and on a summer day I think probably great. Small (at best) hints of fruit. Subtle hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

qa double ipa for a fortnight and a day #10...Smell is muted fruitiness and a vaporous boozy quality that I’m not excited to pull from an over 8% brew. If this is dry hopped, I’m not getting it. Heavy solvent taste and bittering hops. Seems the Bittering hops are taking center stage. I realize balance is overrated, but this is an astringent mess. For the alcohol level, this beer does nothing to hide it. Mouthfeel and drinkability pull an average. Feelin a bit confused by this beer. Really don’t enjoy slamming a beer, because there are so many good beers, great brewers, and it’s a tough gig. But, this is a major letdown.

Bottle thanks to Bob! Pours a hazy deep orange with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of grapefruit and resin with a hint of underlying sweet citrus. Flavor starts with bitter grapefruit and has a growing sweet citrus note as well as a touch of pine.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at Ryan’s on Christmas morning thanks to Suzie. Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Citrus nose. Flavors of orange, lemon and a dash of salt. Smooth, slightly bitter finish.
