COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For our second Local Fields Series offering we looked to match a Belgian classic with the sweetness of Southern California Dates. Palmero is a traditional Abbey Dubbel with a healthy addition of dates from the Coachella Valley. Fruity esters from the Belgian yeast strain combine with a delicate date sweetness. This beer is full of flavors of caramel, raisin, rum and spice. Additional Information: “Palmero” refers to the title of a person that tends date palms. We felt this was a natural name for a beer brewed with Coachella Valley dates. The Coachella Valley is home to roughly 95% of all dates grown in the US. Palmero (the beer) was designed to show off the wonderful complex flavor of Southern California Dates.

Sweet and full of rum laden raisins. Lots of candi sugar. A little cloying.

Caramel and candied sweetness in the aroma. Dark pumpkin orange color with a thin off-white head. Caramel and light molasses in the taste along with a definitely Belgian flavor. There’s a dry spiciness to this similar to a rye beer. Light bodied with a soda like carbonation, but there’s also a creamy texture with a good alcohol warmth. Leaves behind a light milk chocolate flavor and lasting warmth from what at this point seems like more than 7% ABV. Nice, easy drinking dubbel.

On tap. Hazy medium reddish brown with no head. Banana, bubble gum, molasses and caramel aroma and taste with a big bubble gum finish. The date is evident but not as forward as I was expecting. Still overall a good Dubble.

Tap at brewpub-pours deep copper hue with a small eggshel head. nose is kind of fruity, fig, dates, lite dark fruits. flavors are big amber malts, dark fruits and the figs are still there. lite earth note on the mid palate. decent long dark fruit finish here-nothing much else. well put together brew here! nothing much here however, what is here is good. Again, too busy socializing with the locals to take good notes. lol!

I had this on tap at the Pint House in Fullerton. It’s a copper pour with a nice fruity (date/raisin) flavor & nose along with sweetness.

An color with an off-white head. Heavy bubblegum, candy, sugar, and banana aromas to this. A nice touch of dates, but it could use more. Toasted malt and toffee are also prominent. Tastes fairly sweet, but manages to not be cloying. Lots of bubblegum and banana with a good amount of sugar and dates. A light toasted character to it and a slight yeastiness.

Not your typical Belgium, but quite good. Great deep brown appearance with an off white head. Fruity flavor with a smooth after taste. Hints of banana, dates, and apircot. Truly a great beer. Makes me wish I lived closer to Redlands.
