COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Polycot is a wheat beer brewed with hundreds of pounds of organic apricots grown in Southern California’s High Desert. We brew this beer during the very small window of time when the apricots are at their peak of freshness, usually early July. The pureed apricots add a wonderful fruit flavor to the beer and combine with the wheat for a refreshing tart finish. This beer goes down smooth, but at over 1.5 times the alcohol of the Orange Wheat, it will sneak up on you. Additional Information: The name Polycot (Poly=Many cot=Apricot) is a modification of the original name Paulycot. Paul-yicot was named for owner Ben Cook’s friend Paul who provided the apricots for the initial batch. Hangar 24 would also like to acknowledge and thank the many volunteers who spend hours pitting (and de-stickering) thousands of apricots for the brew. We couldn’t make this wonderful beer without you!

2011 Polycot on tap at the brewery. Pours with a hazed golden hued body and a lasting white head. Aromas are grainy, wheat, a bit acidic, tart apricots, fruit skin, grape tannin. Flavors are tart, grainy, fruity, some acidity, apricots, and mild alcohol. Lively bubbles with a dry finish. Nice tartness to this. Tasty.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2012 650 ml bottle from bev4less. Pours a cloudy yellow color with a small white head that soon recedes to a fine film. The aroma is mild and indistinct with (perhaps) sweet malts and a hint of spice. The flavor is earthy apricots with sweet breads and some biscuit character. The palate is medium with lively carbonation. Finishes long with lingering apricots and a bit of metallic aftertaste. Overall: Very tasty apricot brew.

Bottle. Cloudy yellow almost looks like a fruit drink. Solid apricot scent starts light but keeps growing. Strong fruit flavor, at first almost puree like. Refreshing beer. Morphs from apricot puree to tasty apricot wheat.

Bomber from Beverages4Less in Santee, CA. Order something from Fred. Pours hazy dirty gold with a foamy white head. Aroma of yeasty apricots. Near medium body. The flavor immediately suggests apricot pie. And it still does. So it must be bready/pie crust with some apricot. A bit light on sugar - cause it’s kind of tart. It really makes me recall the pies mom used to make. And those are really old memories. She usually made peach pies. Finishes tart with bready notes, and apricot skin tart. Nice beer.

Bottle; poured a ruddy gold color with an off white head; at first appeared a bit murky. Aroma of wheat, must, apricots, and a bit of earth and vanilla. Flavor was pretty balanced for the style; alot of wheat, with only subtleties of apricots. Would of liked a tad more sweetness. Ok, but not too flavorful.

A: The beer pours a hazy yellow/straw color with a tall white head. S: I don’t get quite as much fruit as I anticipated. Plenty of wheat and yeast with a light grassy note. The fruit is a bit softer and in the background, but it does provide a nice bit of sweetness. T: The fruit flavor comes through a bit more, which is nice. Soft apricot and almost white peach flavors on top of sweet wheat and bread. There is a light yeast note, mild grass, and almost no bitterness. M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. O: Slightly sweet, but still fairly light and refreshing. Much better than Hangar 24’s more popular fruited wheat offering.

Hmm. Not a lot of aroma surprisingly. Very cloudy appearance. This is pretty strong in terms of apricot flavor and tons of wheat; way too much of each for my stomach. I really couldn’t drink much of this at all.
