Polycot is a wheat beer brewed with hundreds of pounds of organic apricots grown in Southern California’s High Desert. We brew this beer during the very small window of time when the apricots are at their peak of freshness, usually early July. The pureed apricots add a wonderful fruit flavor to the beer and combine with the wheat for a refreshing tart finish. This beer goes down smooth, but at over 1.5 times the alcohol of the Orange Wheat, it will sneak up on you. Additional Information: The name Polycot (Poly=Many cot=Apricot) is a modification of the original name Paulycot. Paul-yicot was named for owner Ben Cook’s friend Paul who provided the apricots for the initial batch. Hangar 24 would also like to acknowledge and thank the many volunteers who spend hours pitting (and de-stickering) thousands of apricots for the brew. We couldn’t make this wonderful beer without you!

22oz bomber, no date, $6.99 picked up this morning from Olive Tree Market in OB. Pours a little hazier than their Orange Wheat, with a tighter white head, fading to a thick ring and miniscule film. Definite apricot and wheat in the nose, just a touch tart--fairly less than the Orange Wheat. Flavor follows suit, though the malts do seem richer and add more depth, due to the alcohol. Semi-dry finish that isn’t as crisp as the Orange Wheat, bitterness peaked at a 1-2. Low carbonation with a medium body. Not quite as refreshing as the Orange Wheat, but a good beer in its own right.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of fruit. Apricot’s I guess. It’s been a while since I’ve had a fresh one. Flavor is a nice and fresh apricot fruitiness with a bit of citric tartness after the swallow. Not your typical fruity wheat beer with some artificial flavoring added. This is real, fresh and flavorful.

Hazy light honey pour with a decent ivory cap. Tons of juicy apricot is enjoyed both in the nose and flavor but the base beer just doesn’t spin me in circles. Not a bad beer on a hot AZ summer day...might have to revisit.

Not bad at all. Truth in advertising -- wheat, apricots, blah blah blah. I wouldn’t me a bit less sweetness.

Bottle at Anchorage Sept ’14 Tasting: Poured a hazy yellow color with a white head. Aroma was fruit filled apricot. Nice soapy wheat and fruity apricot taste, definitely not your ordinary fruit added wheat beer.

Bottle (thanks to goodbyeohio for sharing)... Poured hazy, pale yellow with a white head. This was awesome stuff and worked well in hot weather. Apricots dried it out, and created a wonderful stone fruit flavor to match the wheat characters. Some estery notes too. Smooth and easy drinking and came off as a session even with its 7.2%. Could drink a ton of this stuff.

Lists itself on the bottle as a “wheat-wine style ale brewed with fresh apricots” Bottled: unk Pours a light golden hazed ale with scatter surface white foams. Smells of wheat, pepper, a little sugar, some hints of apricot blossoms (rather than the meaty fruit I do so love) and a hint of almost American yeast. Pleasant, but simple nose. Flavor is nice and fruity now, a good hit of apricots, very sweet, however. A little bit of the wheat character in the back. Full bodied with low carb and a watery finish. Of the wheatwines I’ve had, this one is pretty decent, but nonetheless, this just may not be my style. Serving type: bottle 09-14-2012

Bottle from Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours cloudy golden with a thick white head and a fruity aroma. There is a light malt flavor with a pleasant apricot taste. A bit thin but quite refreshing.

A hazed golden ale with a thick frothy off white head. In aroma, a light grassy malt with light peaches, powdery, OK. In mouth, a sweet fruity malt with peaches, light soapy notes, grassy, OK. Bottle at Downtown Brew fest LV 2013.
