22. Thanks j and a. Pours a murky ruddied dark amber with a dense and creamy tan head that really sticks around. Musty blackberry quality from the mourvedre grapes. Creamy medium body with lively wooly carb. Musty vinous quality and some tart acidity on the mid palate. Mildly acidic finish.

Bravo to uniqueness and pushing the boundaries of what we think of as beer. It doesn’t always work but this time it did. Not the best beer they make but because of this beer they have my appreciation and I will always give their beer a try. Why be ordinary? Big wine grape nose but don’t let that scare you. The malty old ale the follows is fabulous. Beautiful combo. Ruby red color. Rich sweet and silky. I have to say this beer is extremely inciting. Rich rich rich.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jbeatty (504) - New York, USA - APR 15, 2013
Bottle, thanks to bird_machine. Pours purplish brown, ruby highlights in the light, thin beige head with decent retention, soapy lacing. Aroma has mild, sweet grape character, dark grained bread, brown sugar, vanilla berry, oak. Taste is chocolate and toasted malts, caramel, grape sweetness in the middle, bitter fruity finish, oak, booze. Medium palate but almost a bit watery. Alright, but the grape notes don’t really meld smoothly into the base for me.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 MattH (533) - California, USA - APR 10, 2013
Bottle from Adam’s in Redondo Beach. Complex beer. Amber reddish pour. Nice aroma of oak, chocolate, and grape. Taste is cherry, alcohol, grape and oak. The oak character exhibits itself very nicely at warmer temperatures. Medium body. The only thing that disappointed me about this beer was that I was expected more flavor from the grapes.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 beerguy101 (5206) - Newark, California, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Sampled on 3/17/2013. This old ale pours a deep burgundy color from a 22 oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head with decent retention. The aroma is grapes, leather, malts and chocolate, some tartness and some wine tannin. A medium bodied Old Ale. The malts are caramel, chocolate, bready and sweet. The hops are earthy. Decent and lively carbonation. Wow yet another weird and wonderful beer. There is the malt and breadiness of an old ale combined a red wine with some tartness and some oak. It’s a ‘un-expected’ combination but I am really enjoying the combination. One moment I am picking up some serious chocolate, the next some nice red wine flavors with some mellow oak notes. Nice blend of beer and wine, hope that the folks at Hangar 24 continue to experiment. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is tart.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 timfoolery (883) - California, USA - MAR 13, 2013
Bottle from City Beer during SF Beer Week. Aroma was interesting with a grape and chocolately malt. Flavor really broke down upon oxidation...hops bittered and brought a sour grape flavor. Idk, I like the Hangar 24's usually, but this one was a miss. Ok beer.
