COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ORANGE WHEAT Crisp, Tart, and Refreshing. Whole locally grown oranges added throughout the brewing process perfectly compliment this unfiltered wheat and barley based beer. Our oranges are purchased through the Old Grove Orange company (affiliate of the non-profit Inland Orange Conservancy) whose main objectives are to save the local orange trees from disappearing, spread the word about the local citrus growing heritage, and to feed the hungry with the unutilized oranges. Please visit them at www.inlandorange.org. All we need to do to save the orange trees is to eat locally grown oranges!

Hey I like this stuff, It is a little to prickly. Nice wheat with light fruit. More hearty would be nice.Creamy. A little bit German. 2.99 a bomber. I wish I would have bought a couple more. It makes me want Thai food.

Tap. Pours cloudy yellow, medium white head, decent lacing. Aroma of wheat, citrus, very mild. Flavor is the same, very light orange, light sweet, no bitterness. Light body, prickly carbonation.

It seems like every craft brewery makes a fruity wheat beer, most likely to appeal to the non-craft beer drinkers that visit their brewpubs or to have something on the market to appeal to them. I have a feeling Hangar 24 Orange Wheat is intended to attract those who enjoy Blue Moon as itís a pale wheat ale literally brewed with oranges. A novel concept in theory, but not a good beer in reality.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a wheat beer glass.

Appearance: Despite the name itís a bright yellow banana-skin hue. Very cloudy once the yeast is mixed it. Large sediment chunks fall to the bottle of the glass. Forms a large, bright white, foamy head which mostly evaporates and leaves on trace lacing.

Smell: Authentic orange aroma for sure, but with a noticeable sour tang - like orange juice that has expired. Not very appealing.

Taste: Beer geeks like me tend to mock the "crafty" fruity wheat beers like Shock Top and Blue Moon for tasting too fake and dirty. Hangar 24 Orange Wheat is the real deal, yet itís not any better. Brewed with oranges to capitalize on the natural citrusy flavors often found in these types of beers gives it a sweet, candy-like flavor. However, it fall apart quickly as thereís a prominent sourness throughout the palate (and not in that good Brettanomyces way).

Immediate sourness as soon as it hits the tongue. Reminds me exactly of expired orange juice. A bit more authentic wheat beer character through the middle, but finishes with even more sourness on the end. I donít think I got a bad bottle, I think this is how this beer is supposed to taste. It doesnít appear to be made with Bavarian yeast so itís lacking the banana and clove components that make beers like this manageable. I could see some people finding this refreshing if drank on a hot summer day, but in the dead of winter itís just barely tolerable.

Drinkability: Though Iím not a fan of the taste, I will admit that Hangar 24 Orange Wheat is at least an easy beer to drink. Thin, relatively tepid, cold wet body and clean aftertaste would make this an ideal summer beer. And at only 4.6% ABV itís sessionable as well (if you can tolerate the taste).

A decent wheat beer, with a nice orange character. Not over the top at all. Easy to drink a six pack by yourself

Good, easy-drinking beer. The orange is not too overpowering, and the beer is a great balance of flavors.

Nice fluffy head, lighter orange/boarderline watery. Orange is of fruit not of zest. Cloudy but expected. Finish is not quite there.

Thanks to BLG for this. Pours a cloudy orangish yellow with a small, quickly disappearing white top. Aroma is wheat, yeast and a small orange peel. Taste is much like a very good wheat with the banana, wheat and yeast, itís just the orange is just a little more prominent. Not bad.
