3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium maroon brown with a small off white head which fades to very little lacing. Aroma is of toasted sweet malts, caramel. some pine resin, some fruity hops, and some mild peaty smoke. Taste is of toasted sweet malts, piney hops, dark fruits, caramel, some toffee/bread pudding, and some smokey peat notes. Has a medium body semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, sweet but still somewhat bitter, medium finish. overall, a good winter beer and excellent Scottish Ale.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A little lean but this is well crafted. Dry roast, small doses of spice and plenty of fizz (for the style). Great lift of milk chocolate on the nose. A light touch for the style.

In all fairness I have heard this beer is usually good. I had a 12 oz. bottle from an overpriced 4 pack and it was bad. I mean face puckering bad. I am a home brewer and know that bottles do not do justice to any brew so I will give this beer another try and reevaluate my score at that time. The hops seemed to have lost all aroma and were flat out just bitter, as if the hops had been in the freezer for a while.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to Tim for the hookup while I was away! Pours dark copper with a medium cream head and lots of lacing. Great growler fill, carbonation level is perfect. Aroma is toast and nutty malts covered with loads of fruity esters. Flavor is big caramel and toasted malts upfront with very earthy clean hops and a light roast/burnt malt element in the finish. Really nice beer!

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Some caramel malts on nose. Dark cloudy reddish brown. Caramel malt and some spice but weird off metallic taste as well that was pretty objectionable. Not good.
