3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 Savvy1982 (1320) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 17, 2011
Bottle, from a kind trader whose name escapes me. Pours solid mauve/purple, no head, no lacing. Almost completely flat. Nose is berries, massive tart/sour/acid component, deeper and richer than the Kriek, but still not my favorite Hanssens nose, that belongs to the Oudbetje. Flavours are soft, with cassis notes, a bit odd and sweaty, very dirty in the finish, which I like. Rather vinous and pretty cool.

Bottle: Poured a deep red color lambic with a tiny bubbly head with no retention and no lacing. Aroma of barnyard and funky notes is quite powerful. Taste is also dominated by loads of barnyard and wet leather notes with nice tart cassis and some sour and light acid notes. Body is about average with no carbonation. Very complex beer with no sugar notes and loads of lambic really coming through even though cassis are still discernable.

Tastes of oak, cassis, water, slight funk, and some leather. Medium body. Average texture. No carbonation; totally flat. Medium sweet, cassis and oak finish. I wish it had been carbonated.

Very sour currant nose, with a subtle funkiness. Clear blood red. Astringent and sour, but tolerably so, all currant. Vinous texture, tannic even. Not really all that special, but well made.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheAlum (2981) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JAN 11, 2011
375 ml bottle at Derek’s Tasting. Pours a rich garney glowing hue, a light haze, no real head with a few loose bubbles. Aromas are pretty strong barnyard, hay, horseblanket. Touches of blackberry, raspberry tannins, touches of oak with more horseblanket, funky brett, dryness, grass and hay. Pretty funk dominant. Initial is fairly flat, light bodied, with with some blackberry, black cherry, and touches of raspberry, tart with decent tannins, a touch of lactic acid. Fairly funky, horseblanket, hay, funky brett. Finish is thin, funky, touches of tart berry tannins. Funk dominated, lack of carbonation hurts it a bit. Not bad, funk is great. Carbonation is the issue
