4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
Fresh bottle from an online shop. Looks like a ’flat’ fruit lambic: almost no head, but the limited amount of refermentation in the bottle has produced a thin, milky, light lilac rim of irregular bubbles; colour is a deep, hazy, reddish purple. Funky, pleasant lambic aroma of indeed cassis, as in cassis jam, embedded in impressions of moist wood, medium dry sherry, dusty cellar, dried leaves, stewed plums, lemon peel but softly so, roses, dry red wine and even old port wine - lambic indeed, but in a very vinous and fruity way rather than sharply acetic; wood plays a dominant role. Crisp, sour onset with very clear presence of blackcurrant, in a kind of ’spicy sweetness’ typifying the flavour of this fruit; lemony acidity shows up and accompanies the rest of the palate, nowhere really puckering, but very refreshing. Mouthfeel is soft with, evidently, very low carbonation, but the body is a bit oily and fulfilling enough. Lactic yoghurt tartness appears too, some soft wheat underneath, evolving into a delicious finish of the persisting puckering sourness further dried with woody tannins, but equally balanced with a beautiful retronasal blackcurrant flavour, which even provides a vanilla- and banana-like sweetness in the final stage, much to my surprise... A brief leafy hop bitterness buried underneath all this provides sufficient structure. Blackcurrant does it here: it adds a wonderful creamy fruit sweetness to the acidity of the lambic, resulting in a truly mouth watering fruit beer. Deserves more publicity!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
375 ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber ruby colour without a head. Aroma is rather unique: blackcurrant leaves, wood and sea water. Flavour of tart blackcurrant juice and the leaves, mint, dry wood, green tea like bitterness and cherries. Medium bodied. The blackcurrant notes (especially the leaves) are very authentic and strong. Not very strong on sourness. The raspberry version is from a different planet. This one is easier but much more juicy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at home. Slight hazy deep purple/ruby with no head just a ring of bubbles. Black currant, blueberries, wet cellar, cobwebs, hay, quite woody. Taste is light sour with light woody bitterness. Light bodied with barely any carbonation. Quite good, but again I wonder how it would be carbonated.

Confesso que espera um pouco mais das lambics. Foi a primeira que experimentei e não achei nada demais, muito parecida com um vinho frisante. :(

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie, consumed at home Bank Holiday Monday 25th May 2015 Dark purple on the pour, almost vimto like but head is not pink. A little zippy fruit on the nose. Tart and tangy blackcurrants very dry. Like it, not massively so, but it’s very good, however one is enough. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.6

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from de Molen Beershop, bottled Febr or March 2014, large sample. Clear ruby color, short pinkish frothy head. Aroma is fruity, tart, bit barnyard, funky notes, oak wood. Medium sour in taste, quite dry, fruity, oak wood. Great balance like most Hanssens. Not extreme harsh sourness, but more mellow. Bit too much wood though. Soft carbonation.
