Received as an extra from a friend on BA. Thanks a bunch Phil! Pours a complete flat deep purple in color with an aggressive pour. It’s completely opaque in clarity. Nose is heavy funk, decadent black current, sharp lemon, horse blanket, and wet dog. Flavor is overtly sour lemon off the bat, then it falls back on the black currant. It has some backing funk and vinegar, but this is almost entirely lactic in sourness. Light mouthfeel, no carbonation, moderate to heavy acidity, and a long finish. Wasn’t much of a fan of hanssens prior to this weekend, but after having the Oude Kriek and now this, I think I am becoming a convert. This is crazy sour, but has really nice black currant character as well. Interested in seeing how these are with age on them.

12.7 oz Bottle; Pour is murky burgundy with virtually no head here ; the lack of carbonation is disappointing for me - the nose provides a bouquet of lambic mild funk and black currants - and that aspect I quite enjoy. Because of the lack of carbonation, I feel like it pushes this brew more towards the subdued nature of things. The flavor profile is tart initial, with some lemon present ; the expected funk rears itself but it is mild - while moving into the currants, and lastly a dry finish. This is a nice brew - but it could have been improved by my estimation

I’ve had this one for a few months and decided to pull it out today, as I was in the mood for a sour beer. And it’s definitely sour. Drank it in my Sam Adams beer glass. Appearance: A rich looking brown with just some red-plum tones. No head whatsover, as there is very little carbonation. Just a few bubbles on the side of the glass. Still, a very attractive beer. Smell: Funk. No over the top vinegar, but primarily sour. The dark currants don’t seem to be present in the aroma. Taste: Still primarily sour, but the currants are there at the back. Definitely closer to a straight funky lambic, rather than a fruit lambic. I don’t find this overly sour, but then again, I really like sours. Mouthfeel: Pretty thin. Doesn’t cling to the glass or your mouth. Overall: A good but not great lambic. It’s not going to convert any non-sour drinkers but pleasant enough if you enjoy your beer on the funky side. There is no date on the bottle, so I don’t know the age of the beer. I would definitely drink it again, but wouldn’t go out of my way to find it like I would a Cantillon.

Pours with barley a head. Color is purpleish brown. Sour nose with bleach, lemon, oak, brett, funk, currant. It is faintly carbonated. Mouthfeel is slick and acidic. Has a ton of funk to it. Medicinal qualities, vinegar, acid, lemon pith, lemon juice, malt, oak, tannins. It has a high acidic sourness. The currants add an extra tart punch to this enamel-ripping sour.

July 2010. sampled at a tasting. This is probably my favorite of them all. The black currants adds a lot to the beer and makes it much easier to enjoy and appreciate.

Smell: tart, little skunky and dusty, some fruit esters
Taste: not as fruity as i expected mostly tart with a good base lambic flavour and the skunkyness that appears in the aroma, overall good !
