UPDATED: AUG 13, 2004 At the Brugs Beertje,Outstanding fruitbeer on a lambic basis. Oudbeitje has a great golden-orange color and no head. The smell is fresh and lively. It has this tipical lambic aroma’s with a hint of fraise de bois.It smells allmost like a great burgundy wine. The taste is fresh and sour, a little out of balance but still a great beer in its own style.

375 ml bottle bought @ Etre Gourmet. Pours hazy pale pinkish yellow with no head worth mentioning. Smell is sour, fruity and funky with crackers, strawberries, wild strawberries, red currants, unripe berries, hay, barnyard, lemon juice, horse-blanket and hints of raspberries. Taste is sour and fruity tart with crackers, strawberries, wild strawberries, unripe red berries, hay, barnyard, lemon juice, lemon zest and and sour winegums. Mouthfeel is flat, dry, tart and light bodied. Finish is sour, and tart with strawberries, crackers, hay, lemon juice and barnyard. A nice sour thirst-quencher, a pity my bottle was completely flat.

375ml bottle. Pours reddish gold with absolutely no head, this was almost completely still. Aroma is typical Hanssens sour funk with a great earthy/barnyard/leather quality. I get a slight sweetness in the aroma, which I presume could be the strawberries, but it’s very slight. As for taste, this might be one of the tartest lambics I’ve tasted. It’s absolutely mouth puckering in its sourness, which is kind of great. Taste is lots of lemons and vinegar and wood in the forefront, but the finish is smooth, tart and clean. I honestly don’t taste any hints of strawberries. There’s no sweetness in the taste, it’s all sour. I expected something completely different, but was really suprised and pleased with this lambic. Delicious.

Bottle. Tangerine yellow hazy. Old strawberries, really compressed flavours. Tart, murky. This is interesting. Sweet strawberry flavours, but dry overall, and tart.

July 2010. Sampled at a beer tasting. The aromas are very sour, almost like the gym bag you forgot to open. If you can get past that, it’s actually a very enjoyable brew. Not for everyone.

Il gusto di fragoline è ben presente e molto piacevole, accompagnato da un acido molto intrigante. Annata 2011 da 37,5 cl.

37,5 cl bottle @ home, BBE 07.08.2027
Aroma is sour with some wild strawberries, earthy notes and lactic acid. Feels actually quite close to a very contaminated pale lager and reminds me of some Koulu products – only the sweeish berry notes make this differ. Flavour is tart and sour with grapefruit, wild strawberries and some berry juice. Tart and very dry finish with even stronger strawberry notes. Unique and good, without the berries and juice this would be just a contaminated beer with score of 2.5. But that’s what lambics often are.
