As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

Hanssens Oude Gueuze 15 vintage Pours a glowing, golden color with a bubbly, immediately vanishing white head, which leaves back tiny bubbles at the edge of the glass, wrapped up by fluffy lacing. On the nose, the beer offers well pronounced apple peel, accompanied by a distinct funkiness and old leather. Tomato bush blends into earthy, dusty malts, accompanied by even more dried garden herbs, leading to a very organcic, leafy impression, coated up by moldy funk. Tree bark becomes visible amongst this aroma profile, lending the beer additional earthiness, creating a very versatile, intriguing nose. Has a lower carbonation with an almost biting lemon sourness, while finishing more on soft mineralic stone qualities with a very pleasant mouthfeel after the initial punch. Begins with an aqueous note, joined by intense, but fruity, lemon, balanced by stale, dusty earth defined malts. Lemon stampedes over the tongue in an uncomprimising fashion, clashing at the back end of the palate and dissipates, while leaving back a trail of juicy lime pulp, very earthy, old rock sugar and forest earth. The taste remains focused on the multifaceted lemon, which also lends a nice dryness to the finish, softened by a mineralic aqueous note and a vinegar sourness. Overall a very tart, fruit focussed Gueuze, while its sourness seems to evolve completely from the fruits, as it isnt overpowering any of the other flavors, but adds to their complexity, and therefore remains its natural appearance.

From corked/caged bottle. Pours light amber with the slightest bit of haze. Full frothy head, decent retention. Lots going on here, the nose is a wonderful combination of old musty basement, bread and apples. Flavors range from sour and tart to tangerine, peach, orange rind. Every swallow tastes a little differently. Could probably drink this all day. Wonderful brew.

Pours a clear golden with a touch of amber. Outstanding head volume and retention, world class lacing. Nice sour nose with a bit of vinegar. Tart apples, barnyard funk and a grassy mustiness. Light body with a lively carbonation from the middle on. The outstanding flavor profile is very intense (sour), not very complex and quite lacking in balance. This style calls for sour and this beer delivers. It begins with a sour apple flavor that is a bit tart. The middle brings a shift towards vinegar that becomes quite noticeable in the back of the throat. The finish is sharp and dry with a lingering vinegar sourness coupled with a bit of musty funk.

Amber color, with a white, medium head. Nice tart Aroma, with some barnyard touch to it. The initial sourness fades out in a mild aftertaste, that offers a combination of fruit and cereal details. Nice gueuze.
